Rookie saltwater fisherman

Thanks for reading. I grew up freshwater fishing on the St. Lawrence River in NY. I’m new to the saltwater game. I’m looking for some material to read/study to build my knowledge on saltwater fishing down here in the Lowcountry. Not interested in fly fishing at this point. Types of fish, when they’re in season, where they are, what type of fishing techniques to use on them, are they good to eat or just catch/release, etc. Either a website, book, magazine subscription, whatever. I’m not above a ‘Complete Idiot’s Guide’. Just want to get smarter on it before I waste anyone’s time in the forum with rookie questions. Thanks guys.

Start with google searches. Be somewhat specific, i.e. SC redfishing, SC flounder fishing etc. It should bring up magazine articles and such that can be a good starting point.
SC Fish and Game is a good magazine, Coastal Angler as well. Saltwater Sportsman generally covers, inshore, offshore and West coast fishing articles.
You can also search this site to see different fisheries and techniques. Hopefully this can get you started and good luck with it. You have a good boat to start with too.

Welcome to the site, Dan.

You will learn plenty here. Check out some of the previous posts.

Pick up a copy of this book as well. It is awesome!

Also, stop by Boat and Dock Supply and introduce yourself…they are great folks! Bait, Tackle and more.

If you get over near Moss Creek just before bridge going on to Hilton Head stop in and talk to Josh or Courtland at Southern Drawl Outfitters. They will help you out too.
