Got a call from Holt-On last week wanting to give Thursday a try. Talked with Skinnee and milked as much blood out of that turnip for information as I could get on his previous success.
Had to work a bit to pull a crew together. My buddy at LnsMarine was tied up with work and could not break free. One of the other Clarendon boys talked to much trash about his lack of confidence in me and Chunky Dunk so he has been pulled from the list indefinitely. Made a call to the cousin in-law in NC, he dropped his Thursday plans and was ready to roll. 5 of us. Manning, Newberry, Lexington, Greenville, and Wrightsville beach NC. I like some diversity in my crew.
Got to the landing at 4:45 for our 5am departure only to find Chunky running 30 mins late. Finally he shows up and we are ready to splash the Holt-On No steering After some quick work and a bottle of steering fluid we were ready to go. Pushed off at 6. I figured we would have to make up some ground on Sells and Skinnee but hoped we had not missed the bite.
Beautiful ride out, caught up on some well needed rest. Lines in around 7:45 and it did not take long for the reels to scream to life.
The wahoo were kicking our BUTTS! Rig after rig we were losing the battle, BUT the war was ours to take! The crew was top notch. As fast as they cut them off we redeployed! Chunky changed things up a bit and we started putting a few of them in the boat but it was tough to say the least. Many multiple wahoo knockdowns, 2 different occasions had 3 on at once.
I deployed my top secret tuna bait Jeremy from Atlantic Game and Tackle gave me along with some home made stuff and it was on! Between the insane wahoo bite we began to pick at the black fin.
Next thing you know the right short goes down and the seasons first Maui comes in the boat. The meat slam is complete.

Nice Day S4G! The Hoos were hunting in packs for sure. We also had a few double/tripple knockdowns thursday. Lost a few on cut leaders too. Pretty sweet catching hooâs like that.
