Saban to Texas

Reading online it’s a done deal. Allegedly Texas is offering $8-9 million plus a cut of the Longhorn Network…

I’m seeing Alabama just offered him a butt load more money. Should be interesting

Somneone needs to tell poor Mack Brown that he is unemployed. Apparently he is recruiting in FL. If Saban goes to TX, will Bama come courting Daybo?

Hopefully…

It happens every year. But something feels different than before. I don’t know why but it just does.

Why not take the Texas job. He will get truck loads of money and not expected to do much for at least 2 years. Although I think he would make a difference in his 1st year.

Guys like Saban are motivated by the challenge of doing something different. If he does take the Texas job, he will certainly have his hands full. Texas was once one of the few elite teams in the country and I guess the alumni are chaffing for a return to the “glory days”. So, if Saban does go to Texas, who takes over the "Bama job?

Spurrier is too old, and Saban is close to being too old to leave. If he doesn’t go this year, I would find it hard to believe that he ever goes.

Wouldn’t you think that at some point in his career, that it’s not about the money? Maybe it’s more about legacy than anything else. Going to your deathbed knowing that you are the most prolific college coach of all-time… Perhaps thats motivation enough? I don’t know. I hope he stays at Bama, he’s good for college football.

Saban is in it for the challenge but $8-10 million/yr isn’t going to hurt his feelings. He’s got a wife and kids plus other family. Why not get everything you can and help them out so they don’t ever have to worry about money. Saban will do what Saban wants to do, the University he chooses will write the check he wants to cash too.

Don’t kid yourself about Steve Spurrier either, if Bama came calling for him to take over for a year or two in order to win more championships while they evaluated the next perfect fit, he’d head there in a second. He knows he can win it all in Tuscaloosa, he realizes it’s going to be too hard in Columbia. He’s been there 10+ and has one appearance in a SECCG, not something a man like him is settling for. Also look at his tenure at Duke, UF and the Skins, 10yrs is as long as he’s ever stayed.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

He’s been at SC nine seasons. Florida for 12 years. I think he stays until he wins a conference championship, then he’s gone. He’s been close the last several years, just needs a little luck. I think SC will be back in the championship game in the next two years.

I doubt Bama comes calling on SOS but you never know. If they do we’ll sell you Dabo cheap but we’re keeping Morris.

Like Auburn…still amazes me every time I think about the back to back miracles.

Yes, I think he is the kind of guy that loves the money but that’s not his primary motivation. Just to be the best at what he does.

Saban = EGO. Would he not be the first coach to win a NC at 3 different schools if he pulled off one at TX? Doesn’t need the $, he is a builder, builds programs to win NC’s and then moves on.

At 62, how many more times do you think he wants to do it though?

Fact is, none of us know what motivates Saban. The only thing we know is he is the best college football coach in the game.

I don’t know 23, but at 62 he is young compared to age some of the great coaches that have coached this game decided to call it quits. I hope he stay at Bama, but if he goes to Texas, I wish him well. They will once again have some glory days if he goes there. Bama will be alright too. I am sure they can find a good replacement.

If he wants a challenge, he should go back to Kent State and with this new system in place he just needs to convince the committee that they are one of the top 4 teams!

UT will get there before SC does. Mizzou and UGA will go before SC does. SOS has worked a miracle in the butthole of the state but the hump is too much to get over, this year was SC’s best shot.

Friendly wager on Tennessee getting to the conference game before SC?
