Ladies and Gents,
there is an opening on the SAFMC and I wanted you to know that I am supporting Captain Mark Brown as the next board member. Please see attached my letter to the governor. I would encourage your support of Mark with letters and phone calls. He’s exactly the kind of person we need on the SAFMC.
thumbs up
Would it help if board members sent Nookie an e mail…??

And now the username makes sense…
It would be helpful to send her a letter. You can certainly reference my support. I’m hopeful that CCA, RFA, DNR and others will also throw their support behind Mark.

Thanks yellabird! Keep up the good work. Hope all the SC fishermen on here will take a minute to contact the Governor to show their support for Captain Mark Brown. Public support is the only thing that can trump EDF lobbying efforts.
Letter written and mailed. Thanks for the heads up.
Awesome!
The first part of the process is to be chosen by the governor, then its sent to Washington for evaluation by NOAA’s Office of Sustainable Fisheries Division Chief William Chappell and then from there to Penny Pritzker Secretary of Commerce.
The Council For Sustainable Fishing sent out this information.
"Good news from last week: Governors Nikki Haley and Rick Scott nominated charter boat operators Mark Brown from Charleston and Robert Johnson from St. Augustine respectively for appointment to the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council to fill seats for recreational/for-hire representation.
The nomination letters submitted to NOAA Fisheries can be viewed here and here.
The Council for Sustainable Fishing took the lead in urging the nomination of Mark and Robert, who are very experienced fishermen and know first-hand the economic impacts of fishery regulations on fishermen and the coastal economy. They are both very experienced in the federal fisheries management process, having served for years on SAFMC advisory and stock assessment panels.
There is no doubt that Mark and Robert are the best qualified to serve on the SAFMC. But now the appointment decision is in the hands of the U.S. Secretary of Commerce through NOAA Fisheries.
It’s important that fishermen and related businesses send emails as soon as possible to NOAA Assistant Administrator for Fisheries Eileen Sobeck urging the appointment of Mark Brown and Robert Johnson. Her email address is eileen.sobeck@noaa.gov"
Please take a few minutes to show your support for Mark Brown and Robert Johnson being appointed to the SAFMC by sending an email to Eileen Sobeck. Thank you!
I hate to say it folks, but I strongly suspect the “fix is already in” for Bob Van Dolah.
But I sincerely hope Mark Brown gets the appointment.

Everyone thought VMS was a done deal until hundreds of fishermen publicly opposed it. We can do the same thing with public support for Mark. Every charter captain should send Eileen Sobeck an email supporting Mark. Think of the influence it would have if those captains got many of their clients from across America to do the same.
