You’ll definitely be judged for using Italian dressing… Just throwing that out there…

That’s a nice sized sail BTW.

nice sail- congrats.

Nice fish. Did you have someone assigned to counting jumps or were you multi-tasking?

Two other people watching just a rough guess maybe should have said 10-15jumps. LOL

Please tell me this is a joke.

Did you really kill a sailfish to eat it?

Not only are there better fish to eat but killing a billfish other than tournament fishing is what people did 30 years ago.

Get with the program.

I kinda knew this was coming. As long as he didn’t violate the law I’m fine with it. So , timeoff2fish, do you set the ethics for fishing? Also , how do you know that sails aren’t as good to eat as any other fish? Have you tasted sailfish?

I have eaten a sail that was gill hooked and had a chunk bitten out by a cuda. It really wasn’t bad meat. It did have a large bloodline.

So what is the program? To only kill one during a tournament?

I’m good either way but lean more to catch and eat rather than sport fish. I think it’s just as fun to have a bunch of friends over eating a fresh catch as actually catching.

I don’t understand the line between killing a swordfish and other bill fish. I have never caught a sword fish but would have no problem killing one. On the other hand I have caught 10+ marlin and 20+ sailfish never once did I ever think about killing it.
I have eaten both marlin and sailfish and found both delicious. They both lend themselves to being grilled or smoked. It was always a sad day to see one die.

So many different ways to reason things. Your example kind of reminds me of a huge trophey buck. I’ll let him walk over a doe or scrub buck.

As to the sail over a sword, meat quality. Sails eat just fine, but don’t hold a candle to a swordfish. IMO

There is a huge commercial fishery for sailfish in Indonesia- Its an important ingredient in cat food. We only fish a small area of sail territory. Likely, most sails die of old age.

So, was the Atlantic Highly Migratory Species permit easy to get. Do you get it online or local?

They are very easy to get. No reason not to have one. Check this link if you’re having trouble figuring how to get one.

Yes was very easy to get one (you also need it for tuna). I also told people on my boat the first legal billfish was coming home to try as supper! I am 57 yrs old and that’s the first one so I really don’t think that we depleted the stock in the ocean…we’ve also eaten and enjoyed amberjacks and little tunny’s which are awesome! We DO NOT waste fish period! Bleed them/ice down clean properly you may be surprised the difference it makes when you cook! Don’t be scared to try different fish…some are amazing!(who first tried a oyster! think about that!LOL)

The responses on this report are the exact reason I now see Charleston Fishing as more of a tree hugging B!tch Fest instead of a site to report Fishing Reports. Who are any of you to judge Triple T for keeping “one” SailFish?? Its legal - Deal with it. It seems that every report is scrutinized and every picture is blown up in an attempt to see one little thing that may or may not be correct. What is wrong with everybody these days. Just FYI - a few years back many of us would post reports to help other fisherman, not force personal agendas! I haven’t been on Charleston Fishing for a few months and now I remember why! Triple T congrats on your sailfish but I agree with The Skinneej — next time use Ranch!

The sharks get more sails that are released than you might think! I see no sin on keeping one once in a while.
