Good bait? Your opinions will be greatly appreciated
I imagine if you popped open a clam and put it on a hook you could just about catch any saltwater fish out there, depending on how you fished it…what are you targeting? or did you inherit a bunch of clams or something?

Not fresh out the shell clams, but the ones that have been covered in salt to turn the clams into a “jerky”
Ive used them on the nearshore party boat in myrtle beach. Thats the bait they supply. It works but the fish are mostly black seabass and black seabass eat anything.

not to be snarky, but why would you do that? just so you could cut it up and get more bait pieces per clam?

Ive thought about trying the native salt clams that are salted you can buy online. I think people use them cause they will stay in hook better.

I never tell anyone not to try new things with fishing… given that common sense tells me to throw back in the ocean only fresh local bait… whatever that is in your case.
Clams are liked by black drum so I’ve been told… IMO just seems to narrow your options…
Just wanted to add some variety to the bait arsenal, since salt clams have a good shelf life. I usually use fresh/live bait. Also been trying artificial and popping cork
