Left the dock around 3:15 and headed out towards the Triple Ledge looking for Wahoo and BFT. Stopped 5 miles short and put out the trolling spread around 6 while it was still dark. Worked the ledge on the troll for the next 5 hours with 3 peanut dolphin to show. Did some jigging on the ledge out there and landed some nice Triggers and a few beeliners. Trolled back up towards the Deep Water wreck got a few more peanuts missed a few nice Dolphin and something that looked black that came about ten feet out of the water (king most likely. Came back in at 45 mph. Not a lot to show and a lot of gas burned, but had a great time out there, just need someone who can tell me how to catch a Wahoo.
Water was pretty green for us as well, I was kicking myself on the way back in for not pushing deeper, but figured zig-zagging the ledge would be a better move. Were y’all at the Deli? I was beginning to think I just didn’t know what I was doing, but I guess y’all had the same luck. Those lizard pictures were funny Capehorn, and I leave out of Broad Creek Marina on Hilton Head itzsyd.
We were actually closer to edisto. It was rough and getting worse at 250, so we worked back in. Would have liked to push a little further myself. Tons of bait and birds, scattered weed everywhere made it tough to keep the spread right.
We leave from tybee.
I’ve been to the triple ledge 3 times lately and haven’t been able to scare up a wahoo. I’ve got a new strategy next time. Keep going deeper. If I get to South Africa and don’t hook one I’ll let you know!
I might be interested in a buddy boat trip some time. We might be able to cover more area that way.
Ya! I’ve caught most of my wahoo at 150. But that was in Baja. Lots of guys tell me the same thing here. Then I see posts of guys get’n em at 700ft. I know they travel in small groups a lot. Then there are the large loners. I really need to get a handle on some sort of predictability here if that’s possible.
