I’ve fished many small craft advisories in my 26’ boat. 4-6 is rough, but not scary. It’s not something I like to beat through 60 miles in, but it ain’t causing me to abort mission. I’ve got dozens of people on CF.com that can confirm. I’ve also fished in steep 5-7’s in Florida where I was only a few miles offshore. Also in 6-8 foot rollers. Oh, and I check the buoy when I get my butt handed to me.

Larry is right. Steep 5 footers ain’t going to make for a good hair day but definitely fishable.

I just wonder how many people actually know that if you fish when a small craft advisory is issued, should something happen, most insurance policies will not cover the cost of any damages.
Oh well, to each his own. I would never go fish in those conditions, then again, I am old. LOL!
Bonzo, I see that the boat is at Ripley Light. Dry stack? Come by sometime and say hello.

While we are at it…hard to judge, but 10’ers greeting us one winter busting out of Jupiter Inlet…this was in cockpit of 36’ Hatteras. Plenty bigger boats turned around that day…

I grew up down there and that inlet is no joke. Still have nightmares about the waterdog when we go through on a rough day.

That inlet at Jupiter is no joke at all. My wife and I left out of there one night in a 40’ sailboat, on a delivery trip. Could not even clear the jetties, had to turn around, and had to time the turn just right on the wave face. Thought we were going to lose it before we ever got started good. Ran the ICW instead. Dang, that place was rough [:0]

Saw a 60’er head out of Pt St Lucie and he was launching waves…we slowly cruised down to Jupiter hoping things would lay down but they didn’t. Went out anyways and trolled north in the troughs to Pt. St Lucie. Think we caught a sail or 2 that day, if I recall correctly.

Props on the old 36’ were catching air as we came down the backs of waves…pretty creepy!

Very nice rig you have there Stickman.
