WHAT!!! MY WORLD IS CRUMBLING!!! EVERYONE DOESN’T REPORT WHAT THEY CATCH??? I just thought I was the only one in Charleston that could catch a fish? ![]()
BTW,
I still have fun catching cudas too. I just don’t keep them. Sometimes I’ll try to pick them off the bouys in the shipping channel when I’m looking for cobia. None the less as long as your having fun. I’d still fish even if they told me I couldn’t keep anything.

Eat them if you want to, but I wouldn’t feed them to people who aren’t informed of the danger. If a neighbor’s kid happens to get poisoned by your backyard cuda cookout, and you knew the risk and didn’t inform everyone eating it, well, better keep that homeowner insurance paid up ![]()

Don’t you have someone to bully in the religious section or is it dead now that Lee hasn’t posted in a couple of days?

Originally posted by rickyparishWell after all the negativity spreading around about the possible ciguatera in my cuda, I did my own research and found out that there has only been 2 reported cases in South Carolina and that was in 2004. Ciguatera is found on coral reefs in tropical waters which neither apply to me. Other species known to carry this are snappers, groupers, amberjacks, mackerel, triggers, and a few others but I don’t see anyone passing those fish by so I’ll stick to the facts, not the hear say and throw it on the grill. Not a Clemson fan but the university did a study and says ciguatera is not a concern in South Carolina.

back in the day we caught, cleaned and ate cudas several times a season.the meat has a nice white color, and fries up nicely.the odor is there, but nothing to write home about.Triggers have a funky smell too.
Oh,and the big Sullivans Island fish fry,the one that has been happening since 1949,guess what fish has been served over there in the past?
Nice catch rickyparish, you gotta start somewhere.keep up the good work.
I don’t think anyone was Knocking Ricky for a Nice fishing trip, just trying to look out for him on eating Cuda’s.
Bolbie, correct me but I do believe besides calling me an ignorant red neck you gave me Hell about eating Bow fin (aka mud fish). I’ll continue to eat them but I would have to be on the verge of starvation before eating a cuda.
the real question is… did you have enough ice? ![]()

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

And other than the crystal clear water, the fish, and the diving the Bahamas is a poverty @#@# hole. You think the Bahamians eat cuda cause it is a delicacy? No they eat it cause it is a cheap trash fish. Forest Gump said it best “stupid is as stupid does”.

Fellas you need to keep in mind that not everyones taste buds are the same. I absolutely hate McDonalds but judging by the fact that they are a multi-billon dollar operation evidently alot of people like that crap. By the way back on page 2 someone made a comment about eating flying fish, until you have had a fried flying fish sandwich from the open market in Bathsheaba Barbados after surfing all day don’t crack on it! It taste a hell of alot better than the fish sandwich that McDonalds serves.
Busting on these guys for having a fun day offshore while you sit behind your computer doesnt make much sense. The only comment I would have for the post is glad to see you fellas had a good time…by the way when did the Amish start fishing offshore? ![]()

That’s a bit of a generalization…The Bahamas, like everywhere else, including Charleston, has it’s good and bad areas. It’s also got some of the most beautiful places on earth.
I certainly wouldn’t describe it as a Sh*thole (unless of course, you’ve only visited Nassau on a cruise ship).

I know some Bahamaians will eat bonefish (breaks my heart) but most of the bonefish guides down there protect their resource and livelihood and watch after their bones.
I’ve heard of off shore guides using bones for marlin trolling baits but I’d be surprised if they got them from a bonefish guide, more likely an illegal poacher/netter.
