Met up with Pete early for another long day on the beach. Stopped by the creek for bait. Within a few net throws bagged over a gallon of 5"-7" Mullet. Perfect weather, light winds but very angry waves in the morning, settled down midday. Was hoping for some Reds but none were bitting. Whiting, couple of Blues one baby Pomp, a tiny Jack and small Speck. I suppose the highlight of the trip was landing two decent Finetooth. Always a great day fishing with Pete, hope the Big Reds show up soon:smiley:
Judging by the Inter-dorsal Ridge on the first shark you have yourself a Sandbar there! Nice day! Great catches!
Nice report I went out saturday but huge wave in IOP turn me back went to mt pleasant county park instead funny is i can see fish jumping in front of me but couldnt catch one:smiley:
Good fishing with you and your wife David. She’s a great gal. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I learn every time I fish with you and appreciate it. So far for me it has been a tough year for reds. I can’t seem to find them for the best of me. I think someone has cursed me and his name begins with a “P”. Jarvis you were correct in saying the surf was rough that morning. Huge waves with rip current warning in effect. The pics don’t show how bad it really was. First half of the day the lines just blew back in quickly and it was very hard to get the bait to stay out in the surf. Steveo commented on this the other day in a thread about how to keep lines out on these rough day’s. One thing that helps sometimes is fish the out going tide. In the morning on the incomming it was brutal then after the tide turned and started to “pull” out it calmed down some and we were able to keep lines out much better. Sometimes nothing works especially with strong East/North East winds. Daniel thanks for the help with the shark I.D. looking at the pics one of the sharks had a pointed long snout and the other had a rounded short snout. Mr. Parker and I will be gunning for you and 40 pound balls next year, we have some catching up to do:smiley:
“P” P.S. remove the curse. I am sorry.
Are you saying me? haha I hope i didn’t curse ya… If I did, Ill try to figure it out on taken it off.
Great day fellas. The reds are comin, no doubt about it
Some quick questions for you Mr. Parker. Do you always have the hook connected to the snap swivel or sometimes have a short leader? I know you catch fish like crazy, but I always thought the the metal would spook fish. But you are also using a bead which is a visual attractant. I’ve been using short leaders, 3 to 4 inches, but they seem to get wrapped up. When using bait like shrimp, do you try to cover the swivel or just the hook? Do you use the same type of rig for the mullet? Thanks!
jc, My personal opinion is, the fish don’t care what the bait is on. I believe “Drum” would take bait off of a anchor rope.
I always use beads, attractant?..maybe, the beads add some boancy to the leaders reducing tangles…of course I only use the SuperSpecial model beads soaked in magic.
Jc I fish with Mr. Parker often. The rigs he uses do produce a very high hook up rate. He has great knowledge, but I can cast right next to him and he still out fishes me 9/10 day’s we hit the beach together. I’m in the process of trying to figure out what it is about his rigs that produce so well vs the Carolina rig that I have been using. Some of the differences are a fixed weight, he uses a shorter liter and his hooks are much smaller than mine. His weight is also at the bottom of his rig vs the weight on mine is about twenty inches up. The last outing I tried fixing my weight and shortening my leader. I still used my big hooks because I was targeting big reds with cut bait. After a while with no success on the reds I switched to a much smaller hook and used shrimp and instantly my hook up rate improved and began to get into the whiting. When it comes to quantity and variety the fixed weight, short leader, small hooks with shrimp is the way to go. The Carolina rig is strong, simple, doesn’t tangle often but just can’t compete with those dam magic beads when it comes to high hook up rate, numbers and variety. See you tonight at the meeting David, I am whipping up a snack for you. I hope you like shrimp and bacon:smiley:
Papa just razzing the Peapod, he gets cranky when no one talks to him and starts kicking 40.
Vittles:stuck_out_tongue:
I was hungry before I saw you post, now I’m REALLY hungry. That looks awesome.
Pete you keep posting pics like those vittles and you will need to add another place at your dinner table for me and gail…
See ya at event:smiley:

We will be ready and do our best. Thank you Sir.
Thanks for the info guys. I’ve wondered why the rigs you could buy comes with snaps and not barrels. Went to our Field&Stream here and the SuperSpecials are actually on sale but they told me I was at the wrong store for magic. I bet BPS sells it online.
