i’m new to the area and looking forward to start fishing here. I’ll most of the time be in the rivers and only a few miles out. any tips on where a beginner should start?
are you in savannah?
kicks just keep gettin’ harder to find.
yes i’m in savannah, just got here last month.
there aren’t any websites dedicated to savannah fishing that i’ve found. one that kinda covers the georgia coast is coastaloutdoors.com.
this site is amusing, too, and can offer tips about what to fish with and the areas to fish. obviously, not too much on specific areas around savannah
i’m on wilmington island.
a few suggestions: get a chart of chatham county from the dnr.
skidaway aquarium used to carry them. otherwise, go to the dnr website and find out how they distribute them.
it points out many fishing spots. pay attention to the tides stage the chart mentions.
watch where others fish. note tide stage. try those spots later. sometimes spots produce on different stages of tide. some spots produce on multiple parts of the tides. ya never know…
keep a log.
learn to throw a cast net.
what flavor boat do you run and where do you normally launch from?
kicks just keep gettin’ harder to find.
thanks for the advice. trying to learn about salt water fishing. only did freshwater before. 26ft century cc. also located on wilmington island. been dropping in at hogans. where do you launch and what are you fishing in?
mine lives at hogan’s: old 20’ mako.
i’ll keep my eyes peeled for you…

I must say, if you are looking for reds or trout in Savannah look for the small creeks running into the river and sounds.
During the incoming and outgoing tides you will find the bait moving from these areas. Look for a creek with a channel; something for the fish to hover aorund, waiting for the bait. Stay off the bank, away from the grass and the creek channel. Cast toward the grasses near shore and if this is unproductive cast into the channel areas.
I was on the fish Thursday, (09/13/07) and the reds would bite dead shrimp, live shrimp and gulp shrimp like crazy.
To help you out, I was fishing in and around Wassaw sound, in areas around and behind Little Tybee and Wassaw Island.
Remember, almost any area is productive this time of year, but try to fish the creek runoffs during tide changes.
