I agree, it’s just that our secondary always seems to play way off the receiver. No doubt, no pass rush hurts but, you could at least deny quick outs if you are within a couple of yards of the receiver and not 5 yards away.

I have never seen a secondary play so soft and, they have been playing that way for several seasons. Who is coaching these guys? Do DBs not bump receivers at the line anymore? Would that not disrupt pass routes? I agree, give a receiver that much room and as long as the QB has time, you will get some positive yardage out of it. Don’t get me started on tackling. As seldom as these guys use their arms, you could strap them to their sides and they would not miss them. They “launch” themselves at the ball carrier anymore.
Don’t worry, I see in the paper today that Spurrier promises some “changes”. Who knows what that means.
Ok, rant over.

All that makes sense, but when there’s no pass rush, it doesn’t really matter. It’s tough enough for a DB to cover a WR for three seconds; having to chase him around for 5-8 seconds is just unfair to the DB and nearly impossible…
“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”
All true, and it’s alps hard to play press man unless you have really good and experienced DBs. If Sakkerliner did that the only thing that will change at this point is the number of opponents highlights shown on Sportscenter.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re

Exactly. Did they attempt a pass over 10-15 yards all night? I dont think so. They did not need to. It is tough to get a pass rush on a slant route.
Truthfully, USC has not played well enough to even have a win this year. If all went as it should have, he would be 0-3. With the exception of very uncharacteristic red zone screw ups by an experienced QB and questionable play calling in the red zone (not running Elijah Hood), USC would’ve lost the first game and it might not have even been close. 3 picks in the red zone? That’s incredible given who threw those picks and his track record. (I am a Tarheel fan and we lost so while there are reasons there are no excuses, but I contend we beat ourselves more than we got beat by USC and these last two USC games show how bad they really are. We didn’t fully execute so we lost, but we haven’t made those mistakes since. It is what it is…would love a do over of that game!! When opponents score 17 or less against UNC, we are 9-1…with USC being the only loss. They were very fortunate that night with the “football gods”, as Spurrier said.)
But, I think that Spurrier’s best days are over. There is no excuse for the lack of talent on that field after 10 years of his reign. And, they play as soft as they did in that 4-2-5 last year. I doubt they win 4 games this year at this point.
What do they do to remedy the course they are on? I have no idea. Spurrier has done more for USC than any other coach in a long time…he’s probably earned the right to a few bad years. But, the outlook isn’t good though so how long will fans (who were so accustomed to winning) hang in there with the OBS?

Like Salty said, you can’t have a corner press a WR up if you’re not confident he can press a WR up. Hoke and Ward are the best they can with the tools they have to work with. If he had Steph, or Dunte or one of the other studs with which we’ve recently been blessed at the CB position, things would be different.
And if you know anything about football (not saying that you don’t, by the way), you’d realize that slant routes against a (busted) man coverage = TOUCHDOWN.

Gotta really be embarrassing if you are UNC.

Ha! Not really. We have more talent on the sidelines than the majority of USC’s lineup. The trend is in the right direction even with that loss. Can’t say the same for USuCk.
And yes, it stings to lose to that terrible team. Guess they can think about that squeak by/thank you win over us “smurfs” in the comfort of their homes while they watch us play a bowl game…
USC is going to have the kind of year that their fans will be looking forward to basketball season. Maybe they’ll replace the Spurrier fathead poster at the stadium with one of Frank Martin when he wins 2 or 3 games this season.
