Seabrook Island fishing

Heading to Seabrook on the 12th through the 18th. This is our third time there. We love the amount of sea life there is but we haven’t had much luck fishing. Read a few things that privateer point is good for bonnetheads and capt sams is good for reds. What is the best set up to use? Have 2 cheap surf fishing rods that we’ve used for a few years and they seem to handle what we Go after. I’m wondering what line to use and if I should have wire leaders. Any other advice fishing here would be greatly appreciated!

Privateer point is hit and miss anymore. The inlet to the creek changes almost weekly. You’d have better luck at the point by the Club, between the beach and the small sandbar that runs parallel to the beach between the beach and the ocean.

Thanks for the response. We are staying across from the club so that would work out pefectly. What do you typically catch over there? Setup you recommend?

Bonnetheads run that channel with blacktips and lots of others.

I run a slip weight and at least 2-3’ of wire leader and a circle hook.

Hey BigE. Looks like you’ve found some of my old posts. This summer is the first one that I wont be visiting Seabrook in 13 years (which has me kinda bummed out) and while I can’t really speak to current conditions I’m pretty familiar with what goes on there in AUgust. I’d stick to Privateer Point at sunrise, esp at low tide. If there are blue crabs in the surf, bring a net and catch em for bait. There are Youtube vids that show you how to cut em up for bait. Otherwise shrimp will do. My son and I used 30 lb braid with a 3 or 4 ft mono leader. Wire isn’t necessary for the bonnetheads. Also hit up those benches on Marsh Gate Drive for access to Capn Sams Creek and you can catch some reds. They hang out along the oyster beds there, just be careful those oysters will chew up your line if you get too close. Feel free to post or pm with any questions. Good luck man.

Do you guys just use a carolina rig?

Yes with a sliding sinker above the swivel and 3 or 4 feet of mono leader (should be at least as long as the fish you’re trying to catch). Depending on the surf, a 2 or 3 oz pyramid sinker usually works.

Clams I private messaged you.

BigE22 - I just sent you a PM with some intel.
