Thanks to tree my dog for starting this post and especially for whoever it was threatening to call the man on him…They with a little help from me have created the thread with the most responses currently listed here in saltwater discussion. As always i have learned more by participating with this thread…Thanks guys for forcing the debate…Hope at least some of you guys learned as much as me. One last dig,oops , question… Wonder why most scientific data claim reds can liveand reproduce up to sixty years yet DNR claims much less?? DNR claims 10 to 20 and possibly up to 30 years…

I think im leaving this site. To many high and mighty tree huggers for me. If I catch 50 or 5 of those high and mighty oversized croakers its my business and my business alone. Some of you guys seem to enjoy downing others in an attempt to raise or elevate your self perceived status of all knowing elitists.People like tree-my-dog are the very ones willing to put their lives on the line in defense of freedom.
I have a couple question for you guys:
1. Why does DNR claim unexplained bad seasons for juvenile reds? Could it simply be bad years for either shrimp or fiddlers result in less food for juveniles.
2.Why is there no data posted by DNR on redfish populations since 2010?
3.I wonder why they do not post charts of reds,fiddlers.and shrimp on the same graphs?/
4. why do they stock reds costing hundreds of thousands of dollars and admit it only increases the population by 7%?Seems to me that what they release would be competing for available prey???/
5.why do they (DNR) claim breeder reds could live up to 30 years when other scientists say 60 years??
6. Why is their no data on predator(like dolphins) populations vs red populations??
Maybe just maybe self preservation could answer some of those questions.Admitting all they can really do is enforce catch limits and promote catch/ release would devastate their budgets and put them in the unemployment lines. Al they really need to do is survey you guys for population data..Then if they really want to help they could.

I didn’t realize that treemydog was in the service. If that’s true, thank you for your service to our country. Even if its true, his attitude is still wrong and bad for the fishery.

While I ceratinly appreciate your questions, you should probably address 1-6 to DNR. Unfortnately, I don’t get to weigh in on what they study and why. I just know that its a thankless job and the men and women there that I’ve met are very passionate about this fishery here in the lowcounty. To bash or blame them for anything is wrong. They don’t get paid what they are worth in my opinion.
As far as your questions at the bottom:
They will never outlaw targeting big reds, not as long as the population is healthy. As it stands now, the conservation effort over the last twenty years or so has helped the redfish population grow to a very healthy level. And that’s a fact regardless of whether you believe it or not.
To suggest DNR foots the bill to stock fiddlers…well, that is pretty silly. They are the cockroaches of the mars

This guy(texas) had to pay a 2500 dollar fine but could still fish…He was just ignorant of the law as his brother posted the photos on facebook.can you imagine how many millions of puppy drums this destroyed??
These big reds are not very tasty(to me).Just imagine how horrible I am for wanting to keep the first six between 12 and 27 inches to eat?? This guy must have found a school of breeders and raped some.If he had a bigger cooler maybe he would have got more?? I guess he was within three miles of shore or the feds could have put him in prison.
