Seasickness medicine?

What’s the best seasickness medicine. I like to use it when I’m jetties fishing or even harbor fishin just in case, you never know when you’ll be seasick!

I’ve heard ginger snaps work well to munchn…and ginger ale…it’s the ginger in it that does the trick… But there’s patches work too if you really have a issue with it…but put them on a while before you go out. Friend got one of thE pressure point bracelets. …she said it works… Stay hydrated…and catch lots of fish!..

If you are really prone to seasickness, call your doctor and ask for a prescription of “scopace.”

Bugger. I just went on line to find you a link and I see that “Scopace” has been discontinued in the US. The active ingredient in scope is Scopolamine and it is available in ear patch form called Transderm Scop, but only by prescription.

While searching for scopace and Scopolamine, I came across a diving forum that recommends “Kwells”, an anti-motion sickness medicine that has the identical ingredients as scopace, but at around 75% of the active ingredient.

This looks like an Austrialian on-line pharmacy that sell Kwells for around $6. Shipping is some $30!

Look around, see if you can find scopace, Transderm Scop or Kwells for spot-on medication.

You might try to find some “Trip Tone” tablets. I used to use them back when I was diving and they worked great - I used to get them at dive stores.

Crap, everything I like has been discontinued…

But this spring when we tried to get more for this summer's trips we found it had been discontinued. So we went on a search for a replacement, looking for the active ingredient Dimenhydrinate 50 mg. We found several OTC drugs using that active ingredient at either 50 mg or 100mg.

But at CVS we found a house brand product simply labeled CVS Motion Sickness Original Formula. Same active ingredient and dose. Also the same inactive ingredients in the same order. When we got it home I found the pills had the same imprint as the pills left from last batch of Triptone.

So it appears that while Triptone is no longer sold it is being made for other labels.

Bonzo has it right!!! BONINE!!!

That Scopace patch seems to put people on mars! They seem to have out of body experiences on the patch. I have seen plenty of people that would puke up a kidney, do just fine on bonine

Seasickness?? What’s that?? Being sick of the sea?? One of those fortunate ones here, couldn’t imagine the motion of the sea making me sick! Have seen others turn green all day long and a few other colors as well tho! Best remedy I’ve ever seen used are the pressure point wrist band thingys, have put them on many people and they seem to be the only thing that once a person is seasick they will make it better, somewhat, usually once a person is seasick that’s it, too late to take anything but these do seem to work, espicially with kids. They also make a electronic one that resembles a watch that works on same pressure point but is kind of pricey.

Had my little 10yo cousin out fishing one day years back at nearshore reef with Robert Olsen (Knot at Work Charters) when he started to get sick and Robert put one of the electronic bands on his wrist and he was great to go then for the rest of the day. Had only seen the non electric ones used before and they work very well, but the electric one impressed me greatly on getting rid of the seasickness once it had allready started.

If you’ve never had sea sickness, it feels like this:

You’re think you’re gonna die, but afraid you won’t. It ain’t no fun.

Yakman (hope you don’t become one), I have found that different things work for different people. For me it seems like Dramamine works the best. That’s until I start concentrating on tying rigs or something like that then its all over but the yak. It sucks since I love offshore fishing.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

You may also want to try Motioneze. I ordered it from BPS and it comes in a tiny bottle. You put a small amount on your fingertip and rub it behind each of your earlobes and it works like a charm. I don’t know about anyone else but Bonine and Dramamine knock me out cold. I also discovered the Motioneze also works pretty good on morning after nausea after a little too much Sailor Jerry and homemade “apple pie” (the liquid kind).

I have only been offshore twice and don’t really know if I get seasick but, both times, I took a non-drowsy Dramamine the night before and one in the morning. Never got seasick.

Scop patch the night before. Zofran for breakthrough. Works great on my kids.

I’m jumping on the Bonine bandwagon here. I’ve never used it, but those who have used it on my boat, or on cruises, etc., all say it’s the best sea sickness med’s they’ve taken. Very little drowsy side effects, and keeps everything where it should be.

nothing works better than pot…so I am told

Agree on the pot. I’ve been telling my father for years. He gets deathly seasick under about any conditions. He has been all over the world diving and has even brought some stuff back from other countries that you can’t buy here in the US. Nothing ever works for him. I quit smoking a long time ago, but dang if it didn’t work.

Anytime I was going out for an all day offshore I took a Dramamine the night before and one morning of - never got sick. It doesn’t seem to zombie you out like I have heard people say the patch did to them.

Nearshore i just use Miller Lite!

beer and the power of positive thinking. seriously, your mind will screw you, if you let it. just about any medication you take will work fine…

their main ingredient is placebo!

Pretzle rods, one gatorade for every 4 beer, fried chicken, and never ever let yourself smell someone elses throw-up. I’ve been blessed, only been motion sick twice. Once was following 12 touch and goes on a c-130 and the other was this January in the Gulf. Left the stream at 2300 and got back at Bennet’s point 0730 in 12-16’. All 5 veteran’s got sick. We all took some Dramamine on the way out. I guess sometimes it just doesn’t matter what you take. I think it being dark had an effect as well.
