September 17, 18 Edisto nearshore

Spent the last 2 days bumping around near shore. The water was noticeably browner and full of marsh grass. Between the full moon king tides and the offshore system there was a lot of current underneath a calm looking ocean. Water temp was 75.

Sharks of all varieties were caught; Blacktips, Bonnetheads, Sharpnose, Sandbar and juvenile Hammerheads. Whiting are still plentiful off the beach, and large croakers have mixed in with them. We looked for Pompano but found none, possible due to the “dirty” water. We will keep looking.

Ran out to the 40 and found a few new spots with live bottom and possibly some structure that held large schools of Weakfish. We marked it for the future. BSBs are noticeably thinner, as they have been all season. A DNR gal I spoke with at the marina said she had been hearing that Red Snapper have moved into the BSB territories at the reefs. I said I can confirm same. Grunts, Bluefish and Pinfish all represented.

No Bull Reds yet.

Enjoy this beautiful place.
