Took a run to the 60, stopping for some baitfish at a well-known spot off the beach. We picked up a couple Bluefish, a Whiting, a couple Spots and a Pinfish and were on our way.
Not a soul as we passed the 40, or for that matter, at the 60. We camped out at my Spadefish spot but didnt see any popping. We soon found out why; massive Sharks have moved in, and probably have eaten every last one. We floated live bait on popping corks as well as cut bluefish. The sharks wasted no time busting our lines, taking hundreds of yards of screaming drag. We managed to fight some back to the boat for pics, but of the six we hooked, five broke off mostly 135 lb. steel leaders crimped to ballbearing swivels. We estimate these Sharks between 6 and 7 feet.
All this commotion got the attention of a Barracuda who hit a live Whiting on a popping cork, then tail danced back to the boat to have his picture taken. My second Barracuda in 6 weeks. Call me Barracuda Bro.
We hit the 40 on the way back and found my Red Snapper hole still in business. We also managed a Sharpnose and Bonnethead, but after fighting those beasts at the 60 they felt like Pinfish
Will be out off Otter Island tomorrow looking to zero in on a Shrimp hole. Will post a report if we are successful.
