Looking for any information from anyone using a shallow water anchor system ie. Cajun or stick it. Any information on these products would be greatly appreciated.
I use the 8’ Stick-It with a Scout Costa 190 flats boat, and it’s fantastic.
When initially researching this, my biggest concern was “will it hold”? I’m confident using this in the strongest of currents in creeks, and in light chop in more exposed water. I don’t doubt it would hold a boat a few feet longer and another 1000 pounds heavier. Would be great with any flats boat, bay boat, or deck boat under 22’. Probably fine with a 24’ bay boat even. The trick to it gripping is that it’s flexible and bends with wave action or boat rocking. It’s much like a rod bending while sitting in a rod holder. Friction keeps it from flying out - same with the Stick It.
I even recommend getting a pair, which allows for more flexibility in positioning regardless of current/wind. Same as having 2 Power Poles, except with 2 Stick-Its I can put one off the stern and one off the bow (try that with a Power Pole) or both off the stern. Can even tie midship if needed. I have the 8 Foot version and would recommend it for most people. Go shorter if you’re in a kayak or only have so much storage room. I’d actually prefer a 9’ or 10’ but the 8’ is the longest I can keep in my horizontal rod holders. It doesn’t need much of it in the ground to actually work. A foot or so in sand, twice that in soft mud and you’re good to go.
Advantages:
Quiet - No mechanical noise like with a Power Pole. Cut the motor with a good drift towards your intended position, compensate for current and wind, and just stake away. It will stop a boat moving at several knots if you “stick it” right. There are some YouTube videos demonstrating such.
Inexpensive - Under $100 for pole with multiple attachment lines. Got one from Southern Drawl Outfitters in Bluffton and also one from Charleston Angler in W. Ashley.
Quick and Easy - Way more efficient than deploying a traditional anchor if you’re in shallow.
Disadvantages:
Mud - My only real “complaint”. When anchored in soft mud, it sticks to the pole. However, there’s kind of a trick to using the
Thanks for replying to my questions and wow very descriptive and I appreciate it. I live in Beaufort and I am leaning toward the stick it anchor system over the Cajun due to the construction and the flexibility that the pole offers. I fish out of a Carolina skiff jvx 16 so I have no concern about the pole not holding. I will have to either order it online or make a trip to Charleston to pick one up. Thanks again tight line!!!
I also have the stick-it and love it. Works great and cant beat the price.
Can’t neat them fore the price, thinking of picking up a second one!

Be careful common courtesey is contagious!!!
I use a homemade Cajun anchor. It is a 6’ galvanized grounding rod with a hole drilled at the top & a eye shackle attached for a rope connection. Costs about $20.00 and works great.
STICK IT. Love this thing get the “brake” from them also,a lil pricey but well worth it IMO!
Boy its gettin reel deep in here…

I’ve been thinking about getting one of these. What is the advantage of “the break” over the tether?

i use a mighty mite as it holds in waater 6 or more feet as well in shallow water. in shallow water tie off short. i keep the anchor next to the trolling motor in the bow. jan
My brother inlaw makes them out of a galvanized ground rod, he drills a hole and adds a small shackle…we used a section of 1/2" pvc capped at one end as a sheave to keep mud from getting in boat…works great, stores in pole holder or lays on the deck.

Well I purchased the stick it and I have to say that it works very well. I would recommend this product I don’t think any one will be dissatisfied with its performance.

B.B. - Did you also get the “break” or are you just using the tether?

Currently I am just using the tether cause I plan on installing a poling platform on the back and I am not sure whether or not the platform will interfere with the break or not, so with all that babble once the platform is on I will find a way to use something like the break.
