You never know what is in the water. Saw a 6’ Lemon Shark in less than 2’ of water in front of Pinckney along the oysters.

If the folks swimming knew how many tiger sharks were around there in shallow water, they would never swim.

We were in 6’ of water just off the beach looking for pogies to catch one time and one of those big Tigers came right up beside the boat.

Obviously, to me at least, people are not on the menu, or noone would be swimming, for long.

That drive to Hilton Head for most is alot more risky than a shark attack.

You got that right Glenn. I used to do a lot of flying along the beaches and from the air you can see hundreds of big sharks just outside the line of swimmers along the beach. If those people knew what they were getting in the water with, our tourism business would probably shut down.

Chances of getting bit are probably less than getting struck by lightning and not nearly as high as getting killed in a car wreck. People are not high on their menu.

I used to catch one little shark (12 to 16") after another when I was surf fishing on HHI. Little sharks have mamas and daddies that are big sharks. I still go in the water quite a bit. I figure getting eaten by a shark beats dying in a nursing home, and is a much better story for the grandkids.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Had a Tiger shark, at least 10 feet, mouth one greenie and then checked out another as I yanked it away from him late Friday. He then swam right under the boat. I was fishing by myself, and it was pretty rough. Not falling in the water, usually not on my mind, was THE priority when I later pulled the anchor to leave.

Big boy’s dorsal was maybe 18" tall and probably 2’ wide across the top of his head. You know you’re alive when you’re small boat fishing alone and see one that big up close!..adrenaline rush for sure.

You got that right… Had a big azz hammer head eat a red snapper I released one time. Fish swam about 30ft from the boat then the shark came up outta no where and just crushed it. Never saw the shark until it hammered the fish. Right then I was like screw that I’ll never get in the water out here again! Haha

Have yall seen the Tiger shark tagging program going on in Port Royal Sound now? The same group who tagged Mary Lee and the other great whites, Ocearch, are putting GPS transmitters on tigers, and they are getting some big ones [:0]

Supposedly Port Royal has the largest tiger shark population on the East coast. And Hilton Head has one of the highest concentration of swimmers

Those are some fat ones for sure! Larry I caught 10’+ tiger in Euhaw creek. It was pretty crazy had a live whiting down on a big rod just for kicks while we were wearing the whiting out. BAM zzzzzzzzzzzz I looked at my buddy and was like what the heck is that. Reel was steady screaming we got the boat fired up and anchor tossed. About an hour later that big tiger rolled up beside the 17’ skiff we were in and I cut the line. Our eyes bugged out of our heads cause we swim and knee board all around there. Right up hazard creek is Lemon Island sandbar and I have my kids out there every low tide weekend just about. I’ve always known they are there but it’s not until you actually see one that big you have a lot more respect for what’s in those small creeks!

the wife wants to go diving all the time for sharks teeth in the rivers… i dont think she understands the severity of the situation.

obviously they are discretionary eaters, due to the large number of people in the water and infrequency of bites. however, if i am gonna swim with sharks around, i would much prefer to be able to see them!

We were cobia fishing the weekend before last on the broad and big tiger came up and tried to eat the chum bag the boat next to us had on the bottom. He said he started seeing his rope taking off and grabbed it. The shark came to the surface and thrashed around a bit with the bag and finally let go. All I could think was he must be using better chum than us. All kidding aside it was crazy to see.

That’s not the first time I’ve heard of a big tiger surfacing with the chum bag in its mouth.
