shark fishing?

Hey guys i have been shark fishing for a few years now at breach inlet when we come down from nc to visit my wifes family in summerville. If anyone could give some advice to make my shark fishing more successful, or another location i could try i would appreciate it thanks.

I’d say the front beaches. Lots of nice toothies just past the breakers right now. I have my best luck on the incoming tide. Wade out so that you can cast out just behind the area where you see the waves crashing on the sand bar and be ready. On casting gear I like fresh whiting with the head and tail cut off on a 7/0 or 8/0 eagle claw sea circle. Always had perfect hookups in the corner of the mouth with those hooks. Like I said before though be ready I’ve caught plenty of 5-6ft sharks that way and have also hooked into sharks quite a bit bigger that I couldn’t stop on smaller baits along with some massive rays. If you have any questions me or stanjwarren can give you the answers along with a couple other guys on here. Maybe you can get up with one of us when you come down. If you’re coming down this weekend I’d tell ya to join me but I’ll be in NC this weekend hunting for toothies so I won’t be around this weekend.

Ok thanks for the info i plan on fishing august 8th through 10th. Do you know wich street/beach access would be the best on sullivans to get my surf fishing cart on the beach. It would be cool if i could meet up with some of yall to catch some sharks.

Pretty much anywhere, they are all over the place. I should be out that way on that weekend. Maybe we can get together for some fishing. I’ll figure out what days I’ll be out there and we can try to make a trip or two. If not use the info I gave you and you’ll catch something.

Ok thanks man i defiantly be out there weather permitting

There are quite a few groups that go out often. A small group of us go out with usually 3 9/0 - 12/0 and try play with anything as big as we can find but the weekend you’ll be around is the weekend of Folly fishing tourny so most likely that will take precedence over shark fishing :frowning:

What is the folly fishing tourny is it pier fishing

Another group of sharkers who actually have big gear? Hmmm why have our paths not crossed yet?

Yeah didn’t know there were more of us around the local area. Only knew of the guys me and Stan shark with regularly and one other group. Nice to hear there are more of us.

along with what others said spider weights def help keeping the line still out where you want it. casting definitely works but if you have a kayak you can get baits exactly where you want them by paddling them out too (yakkin baits out and surfing back is also pretty fun) i actually went out today in georgia and got a small blacktip (2 footer), had a hard run that spit it out when i got to the rod, and almost hooked a couple idiot swimmers that dint see my invisible 10 foot spinning rod. havent had time to catch any good bait but seemed like they had no objection to a croaker from a seafood market cut in half. if you catch eels as junk ive also tried eel before and that didnt take long to get chewed up either and stayed on the hook great.

hey there im one of the ones that does shark fishing with fishingduo i know that I will probably be out at folly peir either Wednesday thursday or friday or maybe even all of them. hit one of us up or come out and talk we’ll be in the king fish area

Ok Patches i will let yall know if i head down to the pier i would like to see how yall king fish ive never tried it

yeah man sounds good

Patches text me 631-553-6301 if you’ll be there Wednesday. I’m off that day and could come meet you guys. Always trying to expand our sharking community

ill try to do my part here in florida/georgia! watching a big blacktip/spinner go airborne chasing baitfish 75 yards from the sand was a blast, but watching my rod sit still was frustrating!!! tarpon in the area of my live whiting lines didnt help my frustration either.

Not sure when going for another overnight trip (usually depends on having good bait from catch/Crosby’s lol). We’ll be at the pier most likely next few days and definitely Saturday for the fishing tourney. Feel free to contact us on here if ever looking for more people to go out with, we have our own equipment, just lack a kayak at the moment (fitting equipment in a Honda Civic is hard enough).

I have 2 kayaks, and if you don’t hit the pier we will be fishing on 8th st tomorrow. Wont run big reels out until after beach is less crowded but surf baits all day to play with blacktips and drum.

try big shiny pinfish, or a whole blue crab rigged under a blue water thunder popping cork with a few feet of high test flouro! cast it out and pop it around the poons, freelining should work too

14’ Skiff-“Redfish Reaper”

dont have the hookup for gettin bait down here (yet) like i did in charleston but i aint gonna give up on em so quickly  the beach drops down steep past the high tide mark so they otta be in nice and close for me.
