Shark fishing

Where is the best place to catch sharks off the beach, the only place I go surf fishing is at hunting island in Beaufort I attempted to fish for shark but caught nothing. What’s the best bait to use and what are the best conditions.

Im no pro but from what ive gathered here on the forum IOP, Sullivan Island, and Folly Beach are all good places to hook a shark. Personally, i like to use stingray but ive been told that bonita, whiting, any good bloody fish carcass will work. I even chunked half of a large mullet out once. I didnt get any thing but my pops had a good strike. Hope it helps

If you can wait until Sept when the mullet make their mass migration along the coast, that would be the absolute best time to catch shark in the surf. I caught two 5 footers that way in two days at Fripp a few years ago. The times I’ve fished there before the mullet run were less productive. Catch the mullet with a cast net in the marshes around hunting island or that Fripp inlet at low tide. Cut one into two inch slices for bait. I’ve seen good sized sharks breaching the surface while attacking schools of mullet down there. I’ve had the best luck at low tide in an inlet.

There should be good sized mullet in the marsh pools before Sept, too.
