Hey guys I’m totally new to the forum. First post so here it goes. I’m a landlocked dude fishing mostly for bass and stripers in the reservoirs and rivers around the upstate so I’m totally out of my element and have no clue where to start with surf fishing. My wife and I will be in Charleston some time this summer on vacation and I’m dying to go after sharks from the beach! My question is what makes a good setup. I have a Shimano FXS-90MHB-2 at. Academy the other night for $15. I asked the kid in the fishing area of it was good for shark and he said it would be but I’m sure he knew what he was talking about. It’s a two piece 9 foot medium heavy fast action spinning rod. Is this good for sharing? Also what do I need in terms of a reel? I have an Okuma Avenger 65 bait feeder I use for landlocked stripes. I could spoil it up with some 65lb braid. Would this be a decent setup just for vacation time? Thanks for all the help dudes!
The Okuma Avenger with 65# will get the job done and is underrated in my opinion as a good cheap reel I put mine through a lot and the only thing that broke was the handle when my friends girlfriend got confused on which way to reel and you should be able to catch sharks up to about 7ft, I have but I used the rod that came with the combo which I like better than the reel soft tip with lots of strength for big fish. I have caught at least 100 large sharpnose on it and plenty of other bigger sharks. Just have a good shark rig so you don’t get broke off.

Welcome to CF and you will get good info about all the fishin
in area. If you want shark just be sure of local laws pertaining to
shark fishing, some areas won’t allow it and I hear fines are written or will be …Catch em up and go for it…
