Shark Teeth

Ok so my son and some of his friends have been watching shark week and want me to take them down to edisto this weekend to hunt for some shark teeth. I have no problem catching a shark but a shark dentist I am not. lol :sunglasses: I have read some past post about some good places to find some but they were older posts. My question is ā€¦can someone point me in the right direction so I can put a smile on these kids faces??

The best places to look are the spoil islands along the ICW or shipping channels where they pump the dredging material.

Caution, watch out for rattlesnakes on those spoil islands!!

Botany Bay - low tide is the best

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.

ditto what EWC said. The kids wonā€™t have any trouble finding some small ones over on Botany Bay.

Botany Bay is your best betā€¦ or if you want to stay on Edisto Beach, go out to Beach Access 32, just past where the groins stop. As the tide is going out you can generally find them. The beach is much flatter there than it is further North. (until you get to the State Park and then Botany Bay.

I find little ones all the time along the beach at low tide. If you have never been tooth hunting before I will give you a hint. DO not look for shark teeth. Look for a semi-gloss black point, not something triangle shaped.

I know it sounds weird but you will not see them looking for a tooth shaped object. Once you find your first one, it usually goes quicker. Gotta get the eyes trained.

I never looked at Botany before. I know that will be the time I find a huge megalodon tooth and someone will see me finding it so I will have to turn it in.

Thanks guys. I told the kids about the info and they are even more excited now. Hope they find a few and have some fun. Iā€™ll let yaā€™ll know how it goes.

Also take off your polarized sunglasses. Much easier to see the shine of the teeth without them.

Take them to botany!..Great teeth hunting but the whole experience and tour of the place is something they will enjoy as well not to mention yourself!

Pre dredging you could find tons on Edisto Beach. Now your best bet is the south end of the island or Botany Bay. Botany Bay is just a cool place to go in general so thatā€™s what Iā€™d reccomend.
