Sharking

Coming down Friday, Saturday, Sunday (15th, 16th, 17th) and plan on spending much of that time at the tip of Folly at the jetties near Morris Island Lighthouse. Mostly I fish freshwater stripers but in the last year or so I’ve been buying up an arsenal of gear capable of beaching some 5 to 7 foot toothy critters. Gonna try my hand.

Gear

3 shark rods

9’ heavy composite rod with Penn Pursuit II 6000 (350 yards 50# braid)

10’ Tidewater rod & 1969 Mitchell 489 (near mint condition reel, amazing vintage lefty spinning reel and one of the best spinning mahi/sword/large game reel of its day) (450 yards 50# braid)

9’ Med. Heavy Surf Stik Penn Pursuit II 8000 (500yards 50# braid)

  • all rigged with 300# mono shock leaders linked to three foot heavy steel cable, 10/0 Circles electrical taped to the barb.

Gonna have cast net, plus smaller surf rods for bait gathering
(frozen whole mullet as backup)

Anyone wanna join?

I’ll have a pretty savy friend with me for at least two of those days who is willing and able to kayak baits out. and to help land and quickly measure, revive, and release large catches.

Worst case scenario I get to do some push-ups and cardio on the beach and get skunked lol

Sounds like a good time! Gonna be outta town that weeken for a bachelor party but I’d be down to hang out and chase some toothy critters sometime

Are You fishing at night or during the day? The channel on the riverside is about is about 100 feet in front of the tip of the rocks. If you make a right angle from the last set of rocks on the front of the beach the one that has the wood, to the rocks on the river/inlet side you want to be about a hundred feet passed the outside of the right angle. The set of rocks on the front beach has a sandbar that goes in front of it but it drops off quick about 150ft over toward the light house. The edge of the sandbar would be a very good spot, specifically about 150ft in front of the last jettie on the front beach (it is the one with the wood wall) and 150ft toward the light house. If I don’t have anything going on I will try to making it out there and bring some baits and hopefully luck.

Probably will do ealry mornings and/or dusk

No matter how many variables I have control over, I never expect a bite. I only hope.

thanks btw!
