Sharks from the Inlet

took a trip with the shark group and had some success. Even got to fish with blacktiph who was an amazing guide, and all around good person. If you don’t know who he is check out his youtube channel “blacktiph fishing.”

May give it a few more tries in Charleston before the blacktip challenge in florida come january if anyone is interested.

Released all sharks, and they were all 6’ to 6’3 and from 100-130lbs

Nice report and great pics

Sounds awesome and must of been a blast to fish with him, nice sharks!

I’m so salt life I sued google earth for giving away all of my fishing spot’s.

How was the bite? Was it slowing down due to the cooling water temps? I havent been at it bc of hunting season but I was having a blast catching them all summer. What was bait and howd you deploy it, kayaks? If you guys are local and need a guy w a kayak to go with one day email me. I fish mostly iop for sharks.

Those are some thick black tips!

Awesome catch. Those sharks are looking really healthy, it’s good to see.

Which one was the 130 pounder?

What surf rod are you using? I have been looking around for one to match a larger sized spinning reel accommodated for sharks and big bull reds.

130lbs was a slightly exaggerated guess. We used the girth * fl squared / 800 method, and they were more so in the 110-115 range. The formula does say give or take 20lbs in either direction though

I have the Ugly Stik XH 12’ surf rod. Rated for up 12oz lure, and the other rod used was the 10’6 TFO surf rod. Quite a difference in the 2, the ugly stik is like a broom stick and the TFO is awesome but feels fragile, granted it held up to the task very nicely. Ocean Master has an 12’ that is rated highly, or the breakaway HDX 13’ is the old favorite of many. St Croix Mojo 12’ rod is awesome, but comes in @ 280 bucks. A bit steep. OM is about 150, Breakaway is 230, and the TFO is 200. After using a non foam grip rod I can’t recommend the ugly stik to you, its just so ugly.
