Sharks in the surf?

Saw the water temp hit 61. Was wondering if there are any sharks yet?

granted im at the fl/ga border but the water temp here is 66 and ive been doing very well for them here. between myself and people i go with weve gotten several sand tigers and sandbars and even have a 4.5 foot blacktip so far. if it doesnt take you long to get to the beach it wont hurt to try.

Sand Tiger was caught just south of Savannah yesterday. I’d say we’re about a week or two behind them.

I caught 2 either spinner or lemon sharks between 2-3 ft on Monday at IOP.

Neither. Hard to tell from your picture but looks like a finetooth or a sharpnose, would have to see the anal fin better

Little black tip possibly. I might give folly a try this weekend.

Now that you mentioned it I think black tip was it. Fun fight!

I think it’s way too cold to be a blacktip. Tough to tell in the pic, but I’m leaning towards a baby sandbar.

Which street were you fishing? Looks like 3rd ave.

55th ave north end

67ish degree water where im at and my friend beached a 4.5 foot blacktip already. theyre definitely showing up early this year.

That is about what i was thinking. Mid to high 60s for temp. My son who is almost 4 hasn’t been able to stop talking about catching sharks since it started to warm up.

Is there only a certain area on the coast where the sharks are being caught this early in the year or are they starting to show up everywhere on the coast?

The King is back!!

We went out Tuesday on Folly, awesome conditions… Water felt warm, lots of bait moving around soaked baits for about 3 hours without any takers. Water Temps coming up, Sand Bars and Sandtigers should be hitting soon. I’ll keep you guys up to date on my reports.

Fished Tuesday lines in from 7 to 12 mullet and stingrays. Yaked out getting pounded by heavy surf, blinded periodicly in and out by a combo of heavy breathing and fog caught in the beam of my headlamp. Dropped my lines at like 250 and 300 but thought i was 400 or 500 because of getting pumped up from getting smashed by waves crossing the first 2 sandbars and a rogue giant wave that formed from 2 waves stacking while cresting right in front of me just as my vision cleared from water and fog, biggest wave I’ve yaked yet, at least a 6ft but could of been 8 or 10 I thought I was toast but made it over before it turned over but I was nearly straight up and down in a 12ft yak. I had bad timing on the way out and got smashed by most of the waves but perfect timing on the way in which is usually when you get dumped but I surfed them in. We had 5 lines scattered from about 100 to 400 with out a nibble but had a good time and it did not feel like February. Ready for the season high hopes of some new pbs and something over 10ft.

heres a few ive put on the beach so far myself this year. i landed sand tiger #1 (90" TL) on feb 3 and had a strong spurt the next few weekends. the fat sandbar went 77" TL and the sand tiger in the pic with 3 of us went 104" TL. water was pretty rough last weekend so i didnt make it out, but the trip before that we had 3 finetooth sharks and a 4.5 foot blacktip. granted im 4 hours south, but this is what is likely to come to charleston once water temps hit low 60s. spanish mackerel, grouper carcasses, and stingray have worked well so far. good luck!

Daniel I see you pulled the trigger on the new BG’S. I was looking at those too. Everything I have read on them which is allot, is very good. I did have the chance to check them out, and they are as smooth as any reel I have ever felt, they feel solid/metal body with crazy line capacity. At 100-130 for the big reels, they are priced very nice. If they hold up, the local shops should stock them. I imagine at that price point they would sell. Most certainly your sharks will expose them if they aren’t as good as I’ve heard.

Yeah man! I ordered two of them. They feel great can’t wait to put them under pressure and see how they perform.
