Winter is almost here and I would like to know if you can still catch sharks inshore during the winter, if so what baits to use and where to fish.
Not that I know of, my fishing season closes around December and starts back in March, give maybe one day a month. Think you need the warmer water for most shark species. I use to fish IOP exclusively for sharks with limited success, but havent been in about 2 years now. Long drive for me.
You can catch dogfish, and we do get whites - but not known how close to shore they swim.
its pretty slow during the winter. but the dogfish will wear you out. and I was catching the occasional sandbar down in beaufort throughout the winter.

Where is the best place to catch the dogfish. During the winter every year we head down to hunting island and I want to know if they are present in fripp inlet in winter.

KingFisha, there are sharks still out now, they are starting to thin out, but can still be had in oct, particularly this early in oct, the colder it gets the less of a chance you have but Ive lost plenty of red rigs due to bite offs in oct., speaking of reds, they are your best bet right now, they are in season and provide your best chance of having a good day and if you look at the posts lately you will see they can get real big, you can also find some good info on how to fish for them but if your looking for sharks I would go soon.
Thank you guys for the info and don’t mean to bother but the final things I want to know is if they are spiked dogs or smooth skin dogs and what is the best month to catch them.
FLASharker, what were you using during your day at the Broad River Pier? I assume you could catch them on lures if they were thick enough?
