Hey guys I was curious about catching some sharks around Edisto? We mainly will probally be fishing the N.Edisto river and area. I was curious as what to look for and the bait. I have cought them by accident but never really targeted them. My son loves them( or atleast his toys, he’s never really seen a real one up close). I would love to catch one when we go out. No monsters sharks though I’d love to catch some bonnetheads to show him.Any help would be great thanks.
Go catch some blue craps and cut them in half. Then slowly troll the main shell banks of the N. Edisto looking for bonnetheads. If you see one pitch the crab near him and wait for the bite. Good luck!

Fish the small channel behind Deveaux Bank - saw a boat catching sharks there last year

You gotta love the South Carolina Lowcountry.
fish cut mullet on the bottom across the channel from the A can. One line deep and one shallow, usually a good spot for sharks and may catch a big spot tail also

Yesterday, I was out all day fishing. To end the day, in the early evening, I decided to have some fun catching some sharks. I caught probably 4-5 within a short time span.
I was anchored in 6 feet of water, on the sandbar between the two channel markers in the Sound.
I just had a couple of lines out on carolina rigs with live menhaden hooked through the nose. Within 5 minutes, a shark would grab it and start peeling off line…so lots of action.
One time, something grabbed the menhaden and took off in the opposite direction from the boat…and FAST. I was using relatively small tackle, b/c I had been fishing for trout and reds. Anyway, it took off (whatever it was), and peeled off over 100 yards of line in about 10 seconds. I just stood there holding the rod helplessly and almost laughing, because I could see every bit of line going out, and there was nothing I could do about it…then it got into the backing…and it was not even thinking about slowing down. It spooled me and popped the line like it was a little piece of thread. That was probably the strongest/fastest thing I’ve ever hooked. I just wish I could have seen what it was. By way of comparison, on that same rod, I was catching 3-4 foot sharks with no problem. So, whatever it was, it had to have been a pretty good size.
Here’s a typical 3 footer. Can anyone help me identify what kind of shark?
Just trying to learn every bit I can about saltwater fishing…
Posting on a message board all the time doesn’t make you smart. Frankly, it just means you probably need to get a life.

I’ve caught way more bonnetheads on shrimp than I have on bluecrabs and I usually put both out when I’m fishing for them. In my experience, they’ll pass up the crab to go for a shrimp.
Somebody told us Wall Street fell but we were so poor we couldn’t tell. Cotton was short and the weeds were tall but Mr. Obama gonna save us all

Also, about 500 yds before you get to the sunk trawlers on the right in the N. Edisto, there is a hole at the mouth of the creek. It’s about 7’ or 8’ at low tide. Should be able to catch some in there.
If you ain’t hooked, you ain’t doing it right.
