Sheepshead

Went to the CAT and DUA on SAturday and caught sheepshead nonstop. Kept 55 with the biggest at 8.5 lbs. Lot of small 10-14 inch fish out there right now. Went through 300 fiddlers. Dont know how to post pics yet.

im glad i dont have to clean all those… good going

That’s A LOT of good eatin’. You should throw a party with all that meat. Good job.

break out the knife sharpener.

The older I get, the better I was.

Might be legal, but is certainly not a way to conserve the resource.

why keep 55?

Good job on catching all the sheeps, they are a lot of fun to catch. But why keep the smaller fish? They are to hard to clean and you arent going to get much meat off of a small sheep. Well unless you keep 55.

Please tell me you are feeding an army or had a few fellas on your crew.

HOW 'BOUT THEM DAWGS!!!

What’s the limit on sheepshead ?

“Double Play”
26’ Glacier Bay

20 per person per day.

Shouldn’t there be a size limit though?

There were six men on board and yes they all wanted them. I personally kept 12 and filleted them out in about 15 mins. with an electric knife. Spare me the tree hugging speechs. There are not many fish that one can take in high numbers at all. Sheepshead are not targeted commercially heavy and are also hard to catch. Maybe thats why their numbers are doing fine. The smallest fish by the way went 13 inches. We had over a dozen at the 5 lbs. mark.

I wasn’t referring to you.

What I meant by what I said was that DNR does not specify a minimum length. I do not fish for these guys, but thought that there was a minimum. I was surprised to see that there wasn’t.

Congrats on your good day fishing. That’s quite a haul and from what I’ve seen on these boards, a whole lot more sucessful than a lot of the others that spend mucho tiempo searching for the convicts. Nothing wrong with having fish in the freezer.

And we wonder why over the last few years there have been FAR less big fish out there. Don’t guess it could have anything to do with everyone (well not everyone) killing 2 and 3 pounders to the tune of 30-60 a day. Nahhhhhhhhhhhhh, that couldn’t hurt right? But hey, by law, it is perfectly legal so can’t argue too much. But really, there is not hardly ANY meat on a 3 or 4lb sheep, IMO.

on another note, fished for sheeps yesterday and caught 19 or 20, kept 3 for a fresh dinner and released the rest. Biggest was 11pounds 9ounces. Also caught 150 too many blackfish, kept 2 of 'dem boogers …one was 2.89lbs.

Nice catch !

You kept less than half of your legal limit. Thanks for not being greedy. It’s good sportsmen like you that help keep this sport going strong for others to enjoy like wise.

not breaking your balz but here on CF.com when you start using #'s when measuring pictured fish your treading on thin ice. who cares if you kept some small ones. either way leave the #'s out of it.

by the way to post a pic w/out letting everyone in the world into your photobucket account, left click the img code, last one on the bottom, and it will say copied. once you have opened the reply box where you type your responce, right click and click paste. that will show your image once you post new reply. like this.

My 35 has four strokes and is very fuel efficient and uses no oil. I think we are OK on the fossil fuel stuff. And, even though we have hugh fishboxes, we wouldn’t bring home 55 sheepies or 55 anythings.
