Shoes?

  1. Do you wear shoes offshore?
  2. If so what do you wear…looking at a couple of pairs online and want some ■■■■■■■■ of comfort. I have a size 12-13 and typically need a wide so I have always had problems finding something comfortable.

Keen sandals. Serious toe protection or thrashing fish and hooks. The open sides offer plenty of ventilationtobkeep my feet comfortable. The rubber soles give me good grip for wet and bloody decks and offer shock absorption for bumpy rides. I used to wear flip flops but I got tired of slipping around had a buddy stick a hook through his toe from a schoolie dolphin. They’re not cheap but well worth it in my eyes

Crocs

I haven’t worn shoes on a boat since I quit shark fishing in 2011!

barefoot in the summer. socks for the ride during the winter.

If you are young and your back and knees are in good shape and want to feel the same way when you are in your 50’s better find something that takes the shock instead of transferring it to the rest of your body.

A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.

Sperry ASV’s (anti shock and vibration). A little high on the price side but great shoes.

shimano evair croc style sandals have non marking rubber sole and are awesome. Best sandals i have ever worn and best comfort and cushion of any shoes i own. Great White Shark boots for winter time. Barefoot will punish you and accidents do happen

FishnBarrels, is there a place that sells those shimano evair local? Looking for something new since my go to meeting jesus sandles went out of style 10 years ago

Just got a pair of Sperry Gold Cups for Christmas…I am not a big fan of sperrys, but these are ridiculously comfortable

Can’t beat Crocs for the price and comfort.

oops lost- i ordered my sandals online- they are also very reasonably priced around $45 which is half the price of some trendier leather sandals that suck- i ordered 2 pairs of them and would recommend the same if you can find them- seems like as soon as i find a pair of shoes i like they change and come out with something different

I ordered mine off ebay as well- got my dad a pair and his favorite sandals he has ever had

also- i normally wear size 11 1/2 or 12 and size 12 of the sandals is what fits me best

I’ve been wearing Sperry “Shock Corded” boat shoes, wore them all last summer and this past fall I’ve worn them with wool socks. Great shoes. When they get funky, I toss them in the washing machine. When the soles separated, I fixed them with 5200 sealant.

They look something like this:

My wife gave me a pair of these for Christmas. They almost look too nice to mess up on a boat. And they are feather light!

When it comes to shoe i wear all closed foot shoe. I have west marines leather mocks and they are a 6 on the shoe scale.(1-10) i learned to wear shoes when i was 13 or so had just caught my first wahoo</font id=“Georgia”> fishing a big money king tourney. picked the fish up for a picture. put him down somehow hit his fin with my foot (that i never felt). we tried to pull the fin out of my little toe but wouldnt give. doctors care that monday told us to go the hospital. they put me down. cut my foot open and removed a inch long fin that was wrapped around the toe going in the knuckle…WEAR SHOES offshore ever fish has big back fins

Crocs are tough to beat - they stay dry, have a ton of cushion, and are as comfortable as bedroom slippers.

Stay away from any “boat shoes” that are leather because once wet they stay wet most of the day. Sperry types of shoes look good, but I don’t ever wear them on the boat for the above mentioned reasons.

I had some leather boat shoes once. Wore them a few times and they stunk so terribly I had to leave them in the bed of the truck.

If you have back problems or arthritis and you want traction, fit, breathability, cushion, and STINK control, try the Sperry ASV series - if you go on EBay you can find previous year’s models in the $60-70 range. I love mine and having recovered from a fractured L-1, found they were a God-send.

I had a pair of the Sperry ASV shoes and found the soles too narrow for me. Also have a pair of the Columbia Drainmakers and they’re great. They’d be my choice for winter with wool socks but for summer time in SC or all year in FL I stick to my Keens.
