For those of you who have been actively fishing, what can you tell us about your observations on the shrimp in the creeks?
casted some in the folly last friday and caught two…yep…two…saw one or two jump behind the boat from the wake on the bank in muddy bay on monday as we were running crab pots.

Wont be long till the brownies will be in season!
When does brownie season start???
Big white “roe shrimp”, egg lade, spawning shrimp, will be the bulk of the catch for about another month, then the will be a little lull. After that smaller brown shrimp will move in close to the beaches for most of the blazing hot summer months. Around September the white shrimp will take over again, and continue to get bigger until they spawn again in late fall, ans fizzle out somewhere between thanksgiving and the end of the season in January.

A few tiny (<1 inch) shrimp made their way into my minnow trap yesterday.

Saw shrimp jumping on a mud flat in Hobcaw creek yesterday at low tide. Tossed a 3/8 mesh net at them and all but 1 were small enough to slip through. Patience, they will grow up soon.

Saw a lot of jumps in the wake at low tide yesterday at EDISTO! Some good size, was looking for a crabtrap lost on that 7/7 tide, ending up finding it about 200 yds down the creek up in the marsh!
Big numbers of Brown in the Wando
Caught a few browns in the edisto Saturday, biggest about 3 inches long, lots too small to stay in the net.

Caught a few in the net south of Limehouse last week. 2-3" tails
Super information to have guys! Keep the reports coming in. Hopefully, the shrimp will hear us talking about them and behave this year. Thanks!
I’m skeptical. The fishing itself has been painfully slow, it seems. There just doesn’t seem to be great numbers of either shrimp or fish anywhere right now that I can find or have heard of.

If you think about the amount of rain we have had over the past six or seven weeks, I’m surprised there is anything that lives in saltwater still around - at all. If the coast is not getting washed out, the upper state is. Usually, both are getting plenty of rainfall. What falls in the upper state ends up at the coast. You fishermen on the coast may need to try using freshwater bait.

I talked to a guide today that said the ocean was full of fresh water. Bait much less shrimp are very hard to find. He told me that he netted a couple dozen shrimp and only a hand full were big enough to put on a hook.
Does not sound real promising, especially with threats of a tropical storm coming.

This is the obvious. Too much rain runs the shrimp out into the ocean. Everyone had better start praying that this tropical storm goes away!

I have been shrimping steadily since 1995. I have always enjoyed it…something I looked forward to every year. About this time of year I start getting gear ready and realy looking forward to opening day. I don’t shrimp for the shrimp…I do it because I enjoy it. However the last 2 years have severly tried my patience…anothe year like the last two and I am thinking of doing something really stupid like start playing golf again.
Gonna throw the net later today. Hopefully I can find some browns. Anyone else having any luck lately?
