Shrimping Season is Almost Here

It is that time of year where everyone begins to get their cast nets in order, make sure their little boat is ready to go and load up on shrimp baiting supplies. I’ve heard more buzz this year about shrimping season than I’ve heard in several years. Many people believe that last years mild winter will provide a good crop of shrimp this year. One concern that has come up recently is the amount of rain this past week, but as long as we do not get another heavy storm, there is plenty of time for salinity levels to stabilize and the shrimp to be in their usual spots. Just like fishing, it is important to the shrimping rules and regulations, before you set out to bait shrimp. Make sure you understand possession limits, license requirements, mesh sizes on nets and all of the other rules. Ignorance of the rules will not get you out of trouble and fines for breaking the laws can be quite steep.

We look forward to hearing about eveyone’s experiences and reports. For those of you who are new to shrimping or for those that just like to keep up with how everyone is doing, check out the Shrimping section onmurnforums page. This is one of the most active areas of the site this time of year.
