Took my two sons and we limited out and were culling 4 and 5lb Specks.

Yes, they were pretty fish and fat. It was cold as all get out this morning at 6:30 and I wasnt expecting much but we found em and forgot about the cold. They were in 20ft deep holes in creek bends. Artificial shrimp, not under a bobber. Super slow retrieve with a twitch every two or three cranks.
Released over 30 in the 4lb range. Dont act like you know what you are talking about with “breeder trout” cause you obviously dont. Fat trout feeding on balls of menhaden that lite up the color scope like 4th of july. One day you haters will know how to pattern big trout and get away from spikes.
PS. I release more trout in a month than you will in a year, so dont be pissing on my kid’s thread. These kids are home from the military for the first time in a year and if they buy their SC license and want to keep a legal trout …they can. I quess the freeze can kill thousands but a 19 year old home from the war on terrorism takes one and you are the local dip **** conservation office. Run along

Great job ECU !!! We caught several in that size range up here in MI last weekend.
Trout like these can be caught right now in Little River and far up creeks into brackish water. I have been specifically targeting trout for 30 years and the fishery in trout numbers and size is the best I have ever seen it. This cold front wont shut it down, but the rain will for a few days. Let me tell you a little secret; these fish feed EVERY DAY unless froze, most people fish an hour or two and dont catch anything and head to the hill saying "no trout bite", when they may have turned on two hrs after you leave. You have to have patience and fish all day and keep moving and you will hit them. Never know when they will eat during the day this time of year....moving water does help but not always tide related, more bait related. Also, the bait is in the bottom of the creeks this time of year and that is why the big trout are there. You cant see the bait like summer time cause they are deep and people say....bait has left....not true in the back creeks, just not swimming around in shallow or on top.

Dont know. Why wouldnt it be if they are in a live well and you catch one and release the smallest outta the well. Isnt that what tournament bass and redfish guys do?
I doubt seriously that they are doing any breeding this time of year.Dolphins and cold get a lot more than you do…Looks like you are the best at big trout and sharing some of your secrets…I salute you and your sons…Seems to be a lot of trout out there lately compared to past years…No jealousy here!
