Congrats on the day, and happy Thanksgiving. enjoy a great-eating fish!
Nice day fishing, glad to see our warriors get a good day on the water! Thanks for the tip on how you found them, I’m not familiar with winter tactics, so I’ll be giving that a try next time I’m out. I know of several deep holes in my most common areas.
By the way, Stono doesn’t need me to defend him, but you guys need to be careful who you are labeling a “troll”. Stono is, without a doubt, the most generous individual I know on this forum. He’s not trying to be an ass, and I think there are more civil ways to disagree with someone than what some of y’all are doing. Whether or not taking the big trout is “killing breeding stock” isn’t for me to say, except that the DNR has not imposed a slot limit (and thus I’d be putting them in my cooler as well).
Saying “I am offended” is telling everyone else that you cannot control your own emotions, and thus you need everyone else to do it for you.
Stud trout !!! Nice job man !

I am glad you and your sons had a great day. I want to thank your sons for their service. I also want to thank you for the tips. I appreciate everyone that shares their expertise. I have never met Stono man or anyone else on this forum that I know of but I read a lot of posts, I believe most are good people but come across wrong sometimes. I know I run into a lot of these forum members on the water and at landings . I have come across some really nice friendly people. I am sure you and your sons are no different as well as Stonoman. Thanks for posting and standing your ground.
WoW ECU! Thanks to your kids service. Darn those are some nice trouts. I only want to know where your fishing. Not necessarily the exact spot just the area. I feel I could work it from there. Nice looking fish!!!

Great job on the trout! Saw the beanie on your kid on the left and instantly thought, “jarhead? or corpsman?”. haha… either way, tell him not to wipe his hands on the beanie… because the next time he goes to the field then everyones going to be wondering who smells like fish

And they will always treasure those memories just as I treasure those made with my daddy. Daddy once told me while we were out crabbing… he wasn’t rich and couldnt leave me a big inheritance like some do for their children…I threw my arms open wide taking in the view of the marsh, the water, the sun shining down on us, his muddy old skiff and him…standing there before me…and said…daddy…you and this ARE the best inheritance of all. I meant that with all my heart.
Monetary things only last only a while…what’s in our hearts and memories are there for us forever. Happy Thanksgiving. Know that the time you share with your boys will always fill their hearts and memories… , just as those fish will fill your bellies:smiley:…

Good job, ECU, and thanks to your sons for their service.
Redfish Matt is correct, though. Joe (Stonoman) is as good a guy as you’ll find on this site. I think typed words often misconstrue our true intent…
“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”
Great job on some of the nicest Trout I’ve seen.
Great job on the tips too!!
Troll?? Look at Stonoman’s profile, sir! He is a prolific contributor to this forum and one the finest Southern gentlemen you will ever meet. Oh, and he is a Veteran himself, for your information. ECU1984 has a rather short fuse. I appreciate his son’s contribution to our freedom and in that vein, Stonoman has used his. The fish were great, the time together priceless (my Dad has passed), and the memories are a gift to cherish. Those fish are breeders (whether they are breeding now or not) and I for one would have released them, which I do for every species I catch about 90% of the time. To each his own within the rules. There is no need for name calling or inflamatory rhetoric. Happy Thanksgiving to all and I second the comments from Redfish Matt above as well. Good day to all.

You are one angry man.
My thoughts are if its a legal fish, thens its nobody’s business whether you keep it or not. I think Stonoman’s comment might have been read the wrong way, but I would be annoyed if someone said something about me keeping a legal fish. You can decide what to do with your own fish, but leave mine to me.
quote:You get it, but lets not bring common sense, decency and good manners into here. Rod and reel recreation doesn't put a dent in these fish. Go educate the gill netters and commercial guys but don't come into another man's celebration thread and post something that inadvertently is saying, "look at me" and hope your buddies pile on and chime in. Your issue should be with DNR and your legislator not the guy legally fishing with his kids. No slot on trout fellas. Internet Marine Biologist, I swear. I release fish most of the time and fully understand his intent and philosophy, but this epic day was about kids home on leave and a fish fry. I have always liked Stono's post and think he is a good guy but it is absolutely wrong to go in and attack on someone else's thread. For the record, i have carried DNR guys and Marine Fishery guys in my boat, for trout tagging and sampling. You dont know me, so dont assume anything about my outdoor ethics. Just start another thread about "breeders" blah blah blah....no problems, its all good. It would be a different story if something were illegal in a pic or story but thats not the case here. I was about to post up an 8.2 lb from this morning but dont want anyone to get their panties in a bunch.

Great fish. If some of you would pay attention he has just given you way more info on trout fishing than most who know how to catch them would ever divulge.
I think you should invite me to come fish with you…you know…just so i can examine those fish to make sure they are real…snap a few pics…you know…just for doccumentation purposes Happy thanksgiving everyone.

First and foremost I want to thank your sons for their service to our country. Its through the sacrifice of people like them and those that came before that allows us to have the opportunity to fish and for others to complain about it, criticize you on your catch, or applaud your success.
I choose the latter, nice fish.

I’d also like to thank your son and his friend for their service. And you for raising fine young men. Because of them, this old man can sleep safe in a warm bed, knowing they are keeping watch…
Those trout are surely some nice ones

I wish you would! I consider myself a pretty good trout fisherman and I’ve never even seen a 8 lb. trout
I fish just like you this time of year, deep holes on outside bends, further up the creeks. If there is some structure, even better. Fish deep and slow.
