and finished up in Pt. Jimenez with sails and blues.

Sounds like fun. Did you check out the hot springs in La Fortuna? Has Arenal been active lately?

We stayed at the Arenal Observertory a couple days. Pretty sweet! The hot spring were still there and the volcano was rumbelling and spewing lava bolders you could see pretty good at night. The top rarely came out of the clouds. Cool hiking on a volcano when you can hear the bolders rolling down towards ya. Got like 10 gig of some amazing pics. trying to sort threw them now.

Did you happen to see or visit the “Los Heroes” B&B on the lake. I found that place randomely while driving to Arenal. After 6 Hours of getting pounded by the potholes in the road, I had to stop and eat. These folks took us in like family. We ended up staying the night and hanging out with the owners the next day. Amazing people!

It’s been about 10 years since I have been down there. I bet its a different country by now. I remember seeing a lot of logging. Some of the trees were so big that one log would fill the bed of an 18 wheeler. Did you see any of that stuff going on or did they stop all of that in order to support the tourism industry?

Arenal was doing the same thing last time I was there. There was a slight trickle of red lava visible at night and house sized boulders were always rolling down. Most nights you could see a red halo over top of the volcano from where the red lava light reflected off the clouds. Sounds like you had a somewhat lower ceiling.

The people are still amazing! Alex made buds with a tico boy of a worker at our lodge. He didn’t speak much english, so it was a great learning experience for my son. A pickup game of poker at the bar. Don’t see this in the states much.

I enjoyed the company of him and his dad, i invited them billfishing with us. The boy caught his first sail on a double with Alex’s marlin. Dad got his first 3 sails. We raised 32, hooked 20, released 12 plus Alex’s blue and I got a 400lb blue to start our day off right. Quite exciting watching two kids on billfish. Epic!

they watched as the mate taught them how to rig the bally’s

and Louis made $20 from the mate’s dare to eat a bally’s eyeball.

Tuna WOW

Awesome.

Send lawyers, guns, and money - The poop has hit the fan.

Thanks Rick, but only one of the boys are mine. Louis is the son of our waiter at the Iguana Lodge. They’d likely never have a chance to fish a boat like Shamrock and equally good for my son. Neither of them had ever caught a Sail. I did bring my daughter, but she didn’t want to do offshore.

JOY, there was still some logging, but it seem they’ve adopted better forestry practices. Trying to avoid monoculture is their issue now. The primary forests are not allowed to be touched at all. Here’s what we saw most of the time. Sometimes clearer sometimes not.

Jonnie here’s Andy’s backyard on Matapalo. Nice playground for the kids.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade…

Our inshore captian. He put us on Rooster, Mahi, Bluefin cravelly and a ton of other inshore species, i got 4meg on my good camera i haven’t looked at yet. And he tought Alex to surfboard behind the boat. Me driving! Not many fishing capts will get in the water to teach your kid to surf and give you his boat.

Two weeks ago the YFT’s were there. Then this boat came in and caught them all for catfood.:angry:love those seiners:imp:
