Tunanut, Thats the stuff I was looking for a month ago when I was in Tambor Costa Rica and someone forgot to pay the fish. Awesome numbers and great to share the fish with Costa Ricans that might never get the chance to do it again.
I am hoping for similar numbers in Guatemala the second week of February!
Great pics. Really gets my heart racing. Making my first trip to Costa Rica this saturday. If my trip goes half as good as yours looks I will be very satisfied. I will let you know if the tuna found their way back:smiley:

all i can say is WOW!!! glad you had a great time and evevrything worked out. i was watching the surf report and it has been small for a month now:roll_eyes:. i assume you enjoyed the iguana lodge? the place looked awsome from the website. hate yall missed out on the YFT:frowning_face:. what did they say was the reason for them not being around?
Two weeks ago the YFT’s were there. Then this boat came in and caught them all for catfood.love those seiners:imp:
last time i was in pavones there was a lot of drama going on about those seiners. looks like not much has changed:angry:. they(the seiners) were trying to set up their “holding pens” at the mouth of drake bay. again, glad everything worked out and you and the family had a great time!
p.s. the guy that i was going to call to get a reference on your fishing captain was the fella that posted the panama report and pictures (winky). he was out of town obviously. looks like you ended up with a great captain. love the pic of the ladies making the best of the small waves. perfect waves to learn on! the skurfing behind the boat is classic, is the you clearing the wake?
Hey don’t think it was sunshine and rainbows all the time. Arenial Lake was blowing 20 and rain, made for some tough bass fishing. First half day inshore boat had crap and H2O in the gas, had to send another boat to get us. The owner was very please that i didn’t complain and was actually trying to fix the problem. We did all we could on the water but the motors internal filters were junked up. He made it up to me by giving us the big bote instead. Shamrock blew a turbo picking us up in the morning for our trip to Cano Island, but hey that’s boats. Sometimes ya just gotta make lemonade. Here’s a pic of Shamrock picking us up @ Pt.J. A top notch captian and crew for bait and switch billfishing. I think my thumb is perminatly blistered from feeding so many fish. Reelly nothing like feeling him grab the bait and knowing you got 5 seconds of pain or that circle hook won’t catch em in the corner. No billfish out of the water and i had to ask Eric to hold them up for some in water pics, very professional. Did i mention AC!
What a great trip. I would love to get down that way to enjoy some of those bites. Awesome of you to take your waiter and his son out on the trip. Great Stuff Here!!!
some non-fishing fun. zipline canopy tours were more fun than i expected.
waterfall climbing
I rented this boat several day’s. Proved quite capeable for all of our inshore activities. $600/day and Caliman to show us around, well worth it.
lots of in the water non-fishing fun too
The natives are very friendly
Ok for the fishing truth.
All billfish caught within 11 miles of Matapalo rock in a 1.5mile area @ 210degrees. Inshore fish were all caught around Matapalo rock wi
Thanks Jason, you are an inspiration to Alex and he remembers you well. thanks again.
Daniel, he tried a few times and ended up birds nest or burnt thumb or both. Mine is quite blistered and calist. It takes getting the feel and some electrical tape…he’ll get it i’m sure. I’m ready to go back next week, got a couple grand credit on Shamrock for my missed trip to Cano and wathcing the esavers. Tom trolled with 2 hooks in the water and 4 teasers, he spots the fish, tells us which one the fish is on, and you pitch a bait to her as the mates are bringing in the teasers. My marlin wrecked my thumb bad, but it was good pain. The inshore stuff was live goggle-eye and sardines on circle hooks. Alex did fine feeding the inshore fish, but the billfish proved a challenge for him. I lost a few when the hook turns back into the bait, but that’s fishing. Alex still speaks very fondly of you, your boat and crew. Looks to me that you are still tearing them up. Thanks again for an excellent time.
another great set of pics/vids my friend! youve done you family proud. and you are right, traveling in a third world country is never a piece of cake but looks like you made the best of it. cant wait for my first trip to the osa… i just cant seem to pull myself away from pavones and that incredible wave. once the kids get older i plan to enjoy a trip just like that…well minus the chartered plane and all ha ha.
You know this trip took over a year of planning. The places i wanted to go and their bullchit airline schedules forced too many layovers in San Jose. We got a ton of grief from our kids principal for taken them out of school, so we had to make each day count. We had them keep a daily journal and the have to give a report to their class on Friday on what they learned. I believe their teachers are in for quite a surpise. The plane was the best way to see the volcano and coastline and didn’t cost much more than individual tickets. Spectacular! 10 days for less than 10K total, i’m very satisfied. Now, if i had gone there just to go surfing, i’d be pissed cause the ocean was a pancake. My wife is seriously asking me to look for a place down there. WOW, i must be dreaming because i never expected that! I’m definatly interested in checking out Winky’s place, maybe make a trip with the guys.
Now that you mentioned it J, I may have tied them on backwards…
