Smack down... Freeman vs. Yellowfin

For quite some time Scoutin has been tellin me that ole Phin says there is no way in hell that a Freeman 33 could possibly hang with a YF 36 in the ocean. Well, I say different and I want to see if Phin is willing to go fishing with us in the next few weeks on one of our boats. Scoutin 4 Goodies is ready for sure.

His points are that we cant run the same speeds with the same comfort especially in a following sea. He may be right and he may be wrong… There is no perfect boat, but I have a pretty sneaky feeling that the Freeman 33 can hold its own.

What say you Phin?

i think the freeman wins the ride contest

Jeff Davis is my President

I will bring, bait, rods, and beer along with my favorite bean bag to snooze on the death defying ride out. There will be lots of videos and pictures. Oh and the poor little fishy are going to die.

I am READY SIR!! Phin will be there or ALL internet super hero credibility will be lost forever.

Glad we can finally put this to rest. Been hearing about it for quite some time now. Then again he really needs to ride on the It’ll Do. That boat sure holds its own as well.

Wonder if either will out perform the Mighty Tigress???

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

My money is on the Freeman……YF’s are pretty boats and cost mega $$$ but they are still mono hulls

Easy there Pair…Anyone that has fished on a 36 YF or a 36 Invincible knows they will walk the dog on any cat boat…nice try though…

On the other note I am looking forward to riding on a Freeman…Been on Yellowfins and Invincibles so we will see!

Yes, we will see.

sounds like a pretty amazing battle, jealous of u guys getting to ride on either boat!!

Saw one heading towards Breech Inlet on Sun. Billy, I met you out there a couple years ago, but don’t know if was you I saw yesterday, but that is one badazz boat.

Who’s got the Yellowfin, and are they willing to push it like it needs to? Ya’ll need to do it on a couple of days, rough and nice.

I will put a Franklin on the Freeman. I hope it is rough

So you are saying if it is 3’ you have to go 40mph to get the best ride out of a YF and be a professional driver? That might be ok for some folks…

I don’t know if this was directed at my response, but to answer your question, yes and no. I was stating that in order for a race to be fair, the other person has to know he is in one.

I do think a 36 yellowfin and your boat can easily run a 30-40 in 3’. So for this to be a fair competition, both have to have the same standards set for them.

You are correct… same day, same direction, etc. That was Scoutin and Phins whole criteria. Get out on the same day. And both boats need to be operated by captains that are familiar with each respective boat. Not race drivers, but guys that know how to get the most out of each hull, comfort and speed, in a certain situation.

Speed YF, Comfort, dry ride, Freeman hands down! You wont be drinking
a beverage on that YF, but you will on the Freeman!

Cream can’t rise until it’s churned.

This doesn’t have to take long.

Very simple.

Option A

Call Wylie up to Charleston when you see 20knots or more out of the NE in the forecast during a new or full moon. Simply leave the dock in the harbor together during the outgoing tide, run to the C buoy and back to the dock. Any fishing boat sold for under $300,000 new cost including motors and standard options (that means you cannot take your T top off and show up here) is allowed to compete.

Each boat must have 6 dudes, 400lb of ice, full water tanks and standard option fuel tanks full.

Loser pays for the other boat to top off at the fuel dock.

Option B

Again, very simple. Let me personally run your boat under your direct supervision on a half day trip in late November or early December. Me and friends will cover the fuel, bait and ice bill. I will bring all the non-boat gear and tackle.

I will do the same trip on a 36ft yellowfin on the same or immediately preceding or following day. (half day trip on each boat)

I will honestly compare and contrast both hulls after fishing them.

I would love to ride on either hull. I know both boths are very good ones. Scott likes to bash boats he’s never been on, and he likes to think that I bash Freeman boats. I am merely an observer who needs educating. I have missed whatever lesson that was somewhere on the www explaining how a 600HP 33ft center console could outperform a 900HP 36ft center console.
If you’re going to call out Yellowfin on the www on actual Yellowfin threads, then my remarks about Freeman vs Yellowfin don’t seem like they should cause anyone any heartburn.

The above tests shouldn’t be a problem for anyone who knows me or knows of me. If so, I know of several insurance men that we can talk to before the fishing or race… wait, nevermind… lol

Just go with option B.

Race?

Lord, I dont want to race anyone. These are fishing boats we are talking about. The guy with the biggest cajones wins that race. Now, if we are matched with the same horsepower, then I may be more inclined, but in reality 90%+ that go offshore dont run WOT.

I was under the impression you were talking about overall speed, comfort and fishability.

On the flip side, we are fishing the SKA div.3 this year and we will ge a picture of what we have up against the bigger names out there. As you know, not many tournaments offer good weather.

Here is the reality of what a Freeman will do loaded… 56-57mph with the props we have now that give the best economy. I can get 60mph with less pitch, but the economy suffers. Super light with the economy props I have seen 67mph. Not that much different than a YF36 with trip 300’s. With a pair of 350’s, I might have the advantage. My boat is actually bigger than the 36 as far a surface area of the entire hull goes, so…
