Sneak peak inside Hunting Island damage

This is just a quick look at the Hunting Island park. It has been closed to the public since the hurricane.

Man thanks for posting this. I have been real bummed about the state of Hunting Island and the pace of the clean up. Also not really sure about the idea for a shuttle being passed around.

Our first taste of the lowcountry was a long weekend visit/camping trip to HI SP 25 years ago…we instantly fell in love with the area! We’ve pretty much made the area our annual “get away/get back in touch” trip until this last year. Mathew came through just days before we were supposed to be there :frowning: The Coosaw Yacht Club family has become our second family and we have been in tears over the devastation that the area suffered. Thanks for posting up this video of the park! We pretty much keep up on the Sam’s Point area with our FB shares but don’t get that much video from “on out”.

Wow, in the end of the video it looked like the lagoon has connected to the surf at high tide. That is some serious storm erosion. Hope to get back out that way soon.

Thank you for posting this. Is there a video showing the hunting island pier?

Do you know how the beach held up on the st Helena side I’m staying there in may and I’m worried about the amount of beach left.

Yea the shuttle will be an interesting… experiment. The further North I went along Hunting Island’s beach the more trees I saw half buried in the sand of the beach.

The one thing I was excited to see about the changing sandbars is that you can now easily hit the ocean by going North out of the inlet instead of hugging Fripp then cutting path through a few sand bars.

That break-thru at the lagoon should make for some excellent surf fishing once things settle out.

Look at the island packet for Beaufort post mathew.

I heard that Hunting Island will not reopen?

Anderson, thanks for posting . Wonder who the logging company was? Mom and Dad told me that the lighthouse was moved a mile inland to where it is now due to erosion many years ago. Barrier Islands doing what they due! Move and change.

“If Bruce Jenner can keep his wiener and be called a woman, I can keep my firearms and be considered disarmed.”

The break through in the lagoon will in interesting to watch, depending on what the current does in 10 years that end of the island could be gone. I know the light house has been moved once before, Hunting island is the most visited park in the state so I think they are willing to throw any amount of money at it to fix it.
I saw the Island Packet article they insist at least a portion of the park will be open for the summer. And they used my video footage for the article
