I don’t have a problem with Mr. Smith or his background or his family or his heritage. If I were in his position and could get my nearby boat ramp essentially privatized to be used how I deemed it fit, I’d certainly do it. I’d be all over it actually. I read up on him and his community involvement after I started researching this. He seems to have deep roots to Charleston and Sullivan’s Island communities and does a lot for them.
Kudos to him for being smart enough to get things done and done nicely for his neighborhood. It just sucks for other people who enjoyed that PUBLIC resource since the 1920s. Nothing more.
You act like you can't enjoy it anymore. Get a canoe with a small motor on it and you can still put in there to go catch a redfish. IF you haven
T noticed our area has grown overtime and in some cases we are our own worst enemies. 800ft docks stretching out into creek mouths suck but they are there. You claiming he wants to shut it down for his own use is wrong. How do you know he didn't launch a micro skiff at the same ramp and it really sucks for him having to push the city to shut it down. Now he has to use another ramp to launch his boat.
I’m not going there anymore. I just wanted to b!tch about it. Truthfully. Its what the neighborhood wants anyways.
And out of principal I refuse to pay $10/$15 to put in over at IOP. I’ll just find different areas to fish. No big deal, its just sad to me, that’s all. Times change. That area isn’t that much fun anymore anyways with all the new traffic. I k
I stand by my comment that the Smith family from Sullivans Island are good people. Known them my whole life. Sorry if that bothers you.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.
Not bothered at all. The part about more than most posters in this thread came across a little bitter though. I am assuming you don’t actually know most posters in this thread. If I’m wrong about that well shame on me I suppose.
Just standing up for a family friend that I know had/has no malicious intent behind closing that ramp to large boats. Seeing him lambasted on this site I felt like taking up for him as I would any friend and I would hope you would do the same for people you know. No bitterness here. And my go to crabber used that landing on a regular basis, I hope he still works the ICW area next summer. Also 4 of the 6 people that had posted when I made that comment, I do know them.

Well look at it this way, you still have a few crowded boat landings east of the Cooper. The west of the Cooper crowd doesn’t have a single boat ramp that can be used at all tide phases. Furthermore, none of the powers to be care. They are to interested in vote getting from their giveaway programs.
North Charleston Mayors office informs me that the harbor pilot’s control where a boat landing could be placed on the Cooper river. Berkeley county management is still dragging their feet. Charleston county parks and recreation says you find the land we have the money.
