Some people.

I was at the Sands yesterday after work and launch my boat to test out my motor after I raised it on the jackplate. Just a quick test run, I was gone for 10 minutes when i came back there was a big ole guy and his even big ole wife and thier big ole kid, sitting there fishing and crabbing on the boat dock. I had to tied my boat up to trailer it. As I came to tied it if off to the dock, he get’s mad at me and and starts yelling. He tells me that i’m in his fishing line and that he’s fishing and crabbing. I politely told him to read the sign above his head " boaters have priority on dock". He stated that the ramp was not mine and I told him that he’s right but I had to put my boat on the trailer. I tied my boat off anyways and run to get my truck. The whole time he was cursing and hollering at me that i ruin his fishing day! Do you guys encounter that much here?? Don’t get those problems in FL, much.

Always someone at the dock that thinks its a fishing pier…

I generally try to be respectful to people that sit on the docks but sometimes they get out of control. Most of the time they are respectful in return.

I try to avoid situations like that. Call the autorities next time and let them deal with it.

Typical to encounter this at pigeon point boat landing people may not be rude but been there before all the parking spaces are taken and only 1 or 2 have trailers behind them and 20 people fishing/crabbing on the float dock

I usually just come in regardless of their lines. They can see the boats coming and it is a dock, not a fishing pier. I do not have much patience when it comes to guys fishing off the docks that do not accommodate the boats.

Well the Awendaw way at Buck Hall ramp for the local Obama crowd simply set up the five gallons buckets on the ramp and hold court.

Saw a woman actually take her flip flop off and start wailing on a youngster of hers, seem to be the way they roll.

I just come in too. I bring it in slowly, giving them enough time to reel in if necessary. If there is space, I tie up down from the crabbers and fishermen. If not, they either reel in, move over, or I run their lines over. But that has never happened. I always let them know as I role in that I have to tie up, respectfully, and have always (like xxmadfirexx) been treated the same way.

worst landing is the public landing off 21 on the combahee. (imo) I avoid it during the summer on weekends, it has become a zoo of white trash, with kids swimming around your boat and the adults letting them.

That’s really the only landing I’ve ever had an issue with. I’ve had one or two slow reelers at Gray’s Hill, but never any confrontations.

fred, that place scares me. always glad to see the trailer still there when i come back up the cut… tired of having to put shoes on so i can walk across the parking lot made of broken glass and burnt trash. when i was last there in may, i stepped out of the truck and almost onto a full diaper.

that river is beautiful, but the human element may very well ruin its allure.

well i’m glad it’s not just me. I mostly use the Laurel Bay boat landing. It’s usually pretty easy to get in and out. No craziness there(USUALLY). It is hard hard to trailer your boat when the wind is up and current is ripping though, it’s fully expose to the elements.

I’m not a big fan of the sands, but its right down the street from my house, so I usually have to suck it up. I’ve had my boat hit by another boat 3 times in the two years I’ve owned it, and each time was at the sands. I’ve also had issues with people fishing from then dock when I’m the only one coming in, but I bring it in slow and give them time to reel in because its pretty obvious what I’m trying to do. At least it hasn’t gotten to the point of a shouting match. Then again, many times I’ll have a gun on my hip because I’m “fishing”.

Hey Corks, move back to Hilton Head, we don’t have any of that going on here (ha ha). Just kidding, you are right just try to avoid, it goes on everywhere.
