Glad to be here,It’s a Covid thing, not sure how long I’ll last. I sent out a pon pon to as many of the band members as I still had contact numbers for but so far they have decided to let me sink on my own.
But hey, while you are here check this out. We have a friend from PN’s place that is building a house in the Holy City, a nice one so I’m told. Can’t wait to get down next week and check it out. Stay with me though, this is going somewhere eventually, I’m just doing a Paul Harvey type “Rest of the Story” thingy now.
Long story short, a few years ago he starts talking about building a new house, and believe it or not I was drinking, talking schitt, and somehow offered up a mantle for his fireplace as a house warming gift. I haven’t done any artsy fartsy stuff in a while, I am more of a 20 penny overbuild, gorilla welder type craftsman wannabe guy. I can somehow manage to keep it between the ditches usually sometimes.
So anyway, I cut a tree down, aged it, sawmilled a thick slab of it, dried it, cut it in pieces, joined it, planed it, sanded it, oiled it, and in a few days I’ll put a final few coats of poly on it.
Hope you enjoy the pics and please take my advice and get off this fukkin website all day and do something productive outside. It will do wonders for your soul.
don’t know if that’s what you do for a living. But you got one hell of a nice shop. Lot nicer than the most of the cabinet makers around horry county anyway…
No sir, I just know stuff. This is just a little skill I picked up along the way. The hard part is finding quality wood for your particular project, the rest is just spit and polish really.
The big shop with all the industrial machines is not really my shop, its the shop at the university in the Industrial Tech building I have some access to. I not only have friends in high places, I have high friends in places. The smaller shop isn’t mine either, but my neighbors. He has a heated dust free place to do the finish work. I just supplied the wood, some elbow grease, and ensured all safety meetings were adhered to.
So anyway, here is the finished mantle. Much like a beautiful sunset or a grand vista the pictures don’t do the finished product justice, but you get the idea. Thanks for noticing
These came out of the barn today and into the cellar. Hey, its Easter, so they got a good bath and and new pair of duds. We’ll check in again between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Went to the Greenville flea market with the wife yesterday morning . Haven’t been to a flea market in years. Most of them have turned in to commercial peddlers. But I would say about 70% of this flea market was just average Joe trying to sell their junk. There was a cast iron tea kettle I wanted but got beat to the draw by what turned out to be a 87-year-old man. He ended up getting it for $15. He wanted to sell it to me for $30 and would not budge.
Be getting fruits and vegetables here.
Wife said don’t even think about it.
Was a good way to spend Saturday morning.
The wife goes about once a month to the Pickens Jockey lot. She said I have a lot more stuff. But they’re open on Wednesday morning at 04 till about noon.
Thanks for the compliments. I learned how to do stained glass years ago so I could make a big window panel of a palmetto tree in my kitchen. I’ve been making odds and ends ever since.
I do make some for sale from time to time but, it isn’t my retirement plan. I make mainly for fun, same as my wood turning. I never want my hobby to feel like work.
Haven’t done any pigs mdaddy but I wouldn’t rule it out. I once, ONCE did a tiger paw for a good friend. That was tough.
Fred, pack up and head to Florida. The kayaking opportunities are awesome. We did learn that the Chassahowitzka on Saturday is Redneck heaven. Won’t go back on a Saturday for sure.
"Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It's Hand", but really, who cares?
This is a real hoot.
I’ve been to demolition derbys, figure eight races, tractor pulls , big rig races, all kinds of motorcycle races.Seen Super Joe einhorn bust his butt trying some buses. Forget how many.
Not seeing this before .Tickled the hell out of me. https://fb.watch/6HngZ_nd5Q/
You find things offensive.
I find things funny.
That's why I'm happier than you.
