Southern Drawl Fish Files 5-11-14

What a difference a few days makes. The water here is still kind of funky at the nearshore reefs but real pretty for the first 5 miles or so. Well above the magical 70 degrees.

The cobia are filling in and the spades are showing as well.

I fished with some friends today and we got 2 nice fish right off the bat. Moved out deeper and got 3 more then saw a big school back inshore later in the day. All together we saw over 20 and could have easily had our limit. We kept just the first 2 and released the others. The Boga grips sure come in handy for that. All bites were on artificials.

Josh has been running the tide lines and rips around the slack tides nearly every day and fly casting to cruising fish. Mostly singles and doubles and has had a few takers.

Took my son and a buddy out today. We all got what we needed. Topwater AJ’s for me, first cobia for the friend and a half hour battle with a nice size shark for my son. Out at 30kts back in at 35kts. Perfect day. Video to come.

Not bad for his first cobia. Gutted weight was #49 and the fish was stuffed with crabs. That makes it a good #60 fish.

Do you catch em on big artificial worms /eels? Hogey baits? Sight fishing the cans?
