Anyone seeing any spadefish (or jelly balls) yet around 40 or the other near shore reefs? Going to be down on Edisto July 11-20 and would like to catch some spades.

Plenty of jellies, have not seen any spades yet. I have not targeted them yet either this year. Next time I go out I plan on running a jellyball teaser out to see if any are around. They should be.

Um they are around but you better hurry up cause in a week or two they wont eat anything unless you plan to spear them.
By July they will be very picky.
BW, That would likely explain why I never catch any. We always go in mid to late July and while I have found them on occasion, I can never get them to bite.

Father’s Day at Edisto.
They’ll bite fine as long as you keep some type of chum line going, I use ground up shrimp and crabs in a fine mesh bag,but I usually go to Kiawah reef when trying for spades, always had better luck than the 40’
You can’t catch fish on a dry line
Cant tell what’s bigger the smile or the fish! Both nice to see!
