Spades...

Think I’m gonna try out the spade fish Saturday or Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I’m from the mid-state and don’t know much about the water around Hilton Head, so I’ll swallow pride and ask for any help I can get, here. I have a few things to work out, but I’d really like to make this happen if possible. The house I’m staying in is in Sea Pines, so boat storage might be a problem. Unless there’s a better option for a landing, I’ll probably put in under the Cross Island Parkway bridge. Any help with these questions is greatly appreciated…

-Any ideas for boat and trailer storage for Fri and Sat night?
-Are the jelly balls stacking up in the HHI area yet?
-And this is a long shot, but has anyone ever had any luck on spade fish at Whitewater, or should I count on making the run to the Tire Reef or Eagles Nest?

Thanks again,

Christopher

may be a little early for spades
do not fish much for them much
maybe the betsy ross
if you are out at the ross thought cobia would be a better bet in my opinion
if you want spades
anchor up chop some jelly balls throw them in water and hang one off the back of your boat on a line of some sort then float some jellies hooked on your line back in the feeding frenzy
they may or not may show up
if the water is warm enough you can get them at beaufort 45 or other wrecks closer
if trailer either cross island bridge or the drop at pinkney island okay
if all else fails bring scuba gear and spears and spear them

For boat storage, before the bridge comming on to hilton head island, on the right is a storage unit, they have security and security cameras 24 hrs access and cheap, had no problem with keeping my 35 donzi there, none of the dry storage marinas wanted to mess with a stepped hull so used the storage route, and close to the landing

SEMPER FI
30 gw marlin
35 donzi sfc (sold)
25 pursuit cc(sold)
45 egg harbor sportfish (sank hurricane)

Keep the boat at the yacht club it’s only 2 bucks per foot per day and so convenient. Use public storage behind the Harris teeter for the trailer. We do it every year for a week. You can put in at Charles haig jr and run around to the yacht club it’s only about 5 miles. That way the boat is already in the water and it’s just a quick shot out of the inlet to the ocean. You also may look at south beach marina.

Also makes it convenient to take the ladies out to sunset cruise for brownie points.

There were spades all over the Betsy Ross yesterday, and I saw a bunch of jelly balls while throwing on Greenies at the South Beach rip

Thanks for all the help. If I’m able to get out there, good or bad, I’ll post a report.

Memorial Day is prime time for spadefish at the reefs…
