spanish on the pier

whats the word?? havent heard anything lately, but was up in the OBX over the weekend and they were slaying it in the evening on gotchas. is everyone being tightlipped or has that weird water just really hurt the fishing on the folly pier???

So far the year has been good as far as spanish go. We’ve been catching spanish since the very end of April, and all keeper size as well. We caught any where from small ones to the largest being just under 5lbs. We’ve caught at least one spanish every trip this year. Some days better than others, but getting a lot of action on Got-Cha’s and jigs/spoons. Sadly though, we rarely see anyone else out there fishing for them!

nice how long do the spanish stick around? im on the florida/georgia border and def thinking about working near the beach for em if its worthwhile…especially if i start finding bait pods.

fishing duo on the spanish again this year!!! have they been on a particular tide or just pop up whenever there is bait around??? that second one is grown!!!

The water has been extremely clear and they are showing up in schools most of the time. Honestly this week I have been sight casting at schools feeding on mullet and pogies. Caught 5(lost at least 10) on plugs in lil over hr on Tuesday.

What tide do you usually catch them on? How close do they come in? I’ve got a kayak and was thinking about live lining some mullet or menhaden.

Also what color got cha, gold or silver?

Any color has been working and as for tides as long as it’s not slack they have been heavy in numbers.

went out this morning to take a look, wasnt much of anything going on small whiting trout and blues being picked at by folks just past breakers. water was a little dirty on the bottom of the incoming and i saw no bait or birds to speak of. spent 30minutes catching rigs off the pilings to make my $$ back since it was mostly a waste of time. i personally only caught a dink trout and jumped one off.

The wind is too high today for water hold decent clarity. I’m gonna be waiting for ht to be in evening and then I expect schools be thick around dusk.

was blowing 4-9kts while i was there, i think it was the tide being so low. it will be windy tonight.
