Have there been any Spanish around port royal to edisto?
110 people read this with no reply. Hard to believe that on a fishing site 110 people can read this post and none of them have about or talk to other fisherman. Thanks for the help. Charlestonfishing.com rocks!!!

I saw the thread on Spanish in the offshore discussion : http://old.charlestonfishing.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=164842 and replied. There are some comments about fishing "north" and you might try there. I'm older and have time to read the different and plentiful topics on this site. I don't fish other areas except for tournaments so I saw your post randomly. And yes, this Charlestonfishing.com does "rock".

There are always Spanish in the inlet mouths and beach fronts this time of year. Most who read it probably thought it was a silly question. Go fishing and see

So just not a single person willing to report? Silly question? How about. "Lots of Spanish in the channel. Come get 'em. This is what we’re using. I do go fishing. Just in the upstate. Help like this wont bring much to the local economy. I’m trying to decide if I should come spend my money in your area. Which we have a place at. It’s brutal hot and a 4 hr drive. I didn’t realize I had to be so blunt. [:0].
A can out of south Edisto to 40’. Look for the birds.

They are where you find them, but they are there. Different every day. Just look for birds and bait.

They’ve been tough to find for me since June. Of course, days with decent conditions have been so random that haven’t gotten out to look as much as I’d like.

Thanks. If the weather is decent and we can get out I will pos a report.
Reeldawg is going to destroy our local economy all by himself because nobody wants to give him a report. Actually without a report you will spend more money and time in our “local economy.” Spanish are everywhere, book a charter if you are not capable of locating them by yourself. Frankly we don"t want or need your money, so return to the upstate and catch some redbreast!
Captain jack!!! Doubt you would be there if it wasn’t for people like me. If you don’t think people like us don’t have anything to do with your job in the low country you are sadly mistaken. I can see from your post your a consumer and not adding anything.
I thought fishing was supposed to be relaxing, not make people hostile. Most of us haven’t reported on spanish because some of us, myself included, have not had the time/weather to get out and find the spanish. I looked at this thread hoping someone was posting that they found them. Like the others said, look for the bait and birds. That is the telltale sign. Head out of North or South Edisto and take a look. I normally head out of North Edisto and hit the nearshore reefs looking for birds as I’m riding. Once I see them troll some clark spoons or throw a gotcha plug at them. Others may say different, but I like to troll about 6-7 mph for spanish. If you want something bigger I’ve been hearing of good king fish reports down that way close to shore. Like my grandmother always says, “It’s easier to attract bees with honey than vinegar.”

That is a double negative indicating that in fact CaptJack does understand the economics of tourism.
Spanish are and have been around. Typically I see them go deep once the sun gets up so locating birds becomes most important. Run and gun is my preferred method in the early morning hours or at the end of the day but trolling will yield fish. Gotcha plugs and spoons are all you will need. I always try to pull a Manns Stretch plug of some variety on the WTFB rod, you may very well catch a kingfish like that. I’ve seen two kings skyrocket just before then sun goes down on two separate occasions in PRS in the last few weeks.

Is this how the Spanish Mackerel War of 2016 starts? LOL
There have been Spanish frequently around the mouth of Calibogue and out for the first few miles. I figure PRS is similar but have been fishing south end mostly. But as for consistency, they’ve been all over. One day off the south beach rip and the next 3 miles out. So just keep looking. They’re a coastal migratory species so where you found them yesterday means little to nothing about where they are tomorrow. I’m just glad gas is at an all time low so we can do some riding around without worrying so much about the burn!
If you have a good radar and know how to use it, you can spot birds 6 miles away. Spanish travel so much and move so fast that where they are now won’t be where they are in an hour from now. Just got to hunt for them. They are following the bait. Birds are following them.
Troll fast for them, 8 or 10 mph is not too fast and you can cover a lot of ground.

First, I’ve tried to avoid responding after you knocked this site. I used to view MBs as a squandering of time. Now, it’s entertainment. I read your older posts and most involve fishing with somebody else. or, what someone else thinks about your fishing plan.
Maybe you were having a bad day on the first post here…pass.

What’s up with this guy?

You are done in my book. Some folks can’t be bought. I’m one of them…as is Captain Jack. I wouldn’t take you fishing for any amount of money. Stick to lake fishing…I’d hate myself for towing you off a bar if I knew you spewed this stool.
I actually feel for reeldawg a bit. I joined this forum hoping to get some helpful hints around HHI but 146 viewings later and a couple of PMs not a single person has responded to anything. I’m a member of a forum here in WV in which many an outsider has asked for some advice and has received many helpful hints. It’s a great site and there is good info, but I know when I drive 10+ hours and have been screwed by 2 different captains it’s hard for me to want to charter another and it’s about impossible to “go fish” and figure it out with the extremely limited time I get. Not sure what to think…

I tried to show the poster where the info he was looking for was, and he waylays on the locals. I drove 3+ hours, towing a boat from Columbia and caught nothing but Jacks...TOO BAD. If you ask for help on this site more than once...somebody will give an opinion... Persistence can be productive. I'll start paying attention to HHI area... You axed for it.

Mdaddy and the rest of you who feel sorry for me. DONT. If your a guide, you don’t make a living off locals and your selling yourself everyday. There’s no way you know what type of person is getting on your boat. Just like others have no idea what their getting in a guide. Even after research. I was trying to get an up to date report. I’ve been fishing our coast longer then most who have replied. Caught many of Spanish. It’s a shame I had to call y’all out just to get a response. Catching bees with honey… I tried that. 110 reads and zero responses. So… I acted like a jerk and all the sudden there’s plenty of info and responses. Yet I’m getting a finger pointed at me. Act like an ass, get reports. Ask nicely… Nothing.
