I use a 48 with no problems.

I’ve had good luck with the JBL carbines.
Had 3 so far and nothing but good experiences with all 3.
You can find them on EBAY from leisure pro for around $100+ bucks depending on what model you want. I currently have a D7 and a D8. The D8 has a reel on it the D7 has the standard length of line. I got less than $250 in both.

Posted to CharlestonDiving.com yet? Those guys have the hot ticket on spearfishing. Most recommend longer guns (50" - 60") with free shafts. Use that long gun to close distance and get good aim, then just stone the fish.

YOu can look into a rob allen at FlFreedivers.com. I use a 110cm for most stuff. 90-110cm should be fine for the murky inshore. If you want to go real cheap you can piece together a rob allen barrel, to a picasso century handle and finished with a rob allen barrel. I could write a big review about guns while freediving vs scuba but unfortunately I dont have the time right now. Probably could get some good info on youtube. But for freediving an aluminum pipe gun works, shafts are strong and not that expensive. Rob Allen is my choice. You could look into Mako Spearguns for a cheaper solution as well.

Almost forgot. For offshore clear water I use 140cm gun.

Great site. I use it 75% of the time, followed by LeisurePro.

OmerSub Excalibur is an good Euro gun for less than $200. I would differ with Breathless on the length for inshore. If you ever tried shooting sheepshead on pilings or the rocks you would find that 90cm is too long. When you only have viz of 3 feet you need a much shorter barrel. Use a 60cm with a double band. All of your shots are going to be within 5 feet most days. You simply cannot see any further than that. You simply do not need the power that comes with a long barrel.
