Left the dock around 8am on Friday with Ed, Chris, Patrick, Hannah, and Clyde. Headed out to jig for live bait but had trouble locating any bait balls. Desided to head to 75ft and fish and jig for bait. Chris and I decided to drop down to the bottom and find out what is going on with the fish. The bottom looked great. Maybe the first time these grouper had seen any humans. The grouper were friendly at first but figured out what was going on. We saw tons of Red Snapper, BSB sheaphead. I looked over and Chris was fighing with a big grouper -the grouper was on top at first but Chris flipped him. I ended up with 2 gags and a nice flounder and Chirs pickoff 3 gags. Vis was at least 30 to 40ft and temp was 64 degrees. Great dive and great numbers on the spot.
Sorry I missed the trip. Wasn’t yet back in town. Lets go get some tuna in a few weeks.

good job on the groupers, they were thick when me, ed, erick went out last week. and congrats on your new boat.
Thank you for the post and for the folks who do post on here, we really do appreciate it and learn. A lot of us will not post anything, due to the internet/ telephone - computer tough guys that just sit and wait to say something to just stir problems. How about be nice to everyone because you have no idea who they are, capable or willing to do. could even be the banker, who you will be trying to get a loan from or a cop who you were a jack a$$ to and now he just pulled you over or a Green Beret who just wants to enjoy life for awhile, hunt and fish with good god fearing patriotic people.
Sorry for the rant, just get irritated when good people get slammed by trying to do something nice and informative.

If it was a boat limit, then you would have been legal then! I know a lot of people who catch someone else's limit. They just don't broadcast it in public!

Well that's one interpretation... The other interpretation is that someone is trying to keep you out of trouble and preserve the reputation of spearfishing at the same time.

The way DNR explained it to me is that you do not need a license to fish in federal waters you need a license per limit to bring the fish into the state. I have never been asked who caught what I have only had to show a license per limit. It makes since seeing that if one guy caught a gag and then caught another gag he would have to throw the 2nd one back even though no one else on the boat had caught a gag. Let me know if this is not correct.

What if My wife, infant, and i go on a boat ride and I find some fish schooling. Can my less than one year old “possess” a limit of fish?
Kind of what can you do vs what they can prove.
Another more realistic example, say you are diving and 3 people up top 2 on bottom. DNR/CG shows up with divers in water to do a safety check/fish check. While sitting there up pops a stringer with 5 gags on it. 2 divers, 3 riders, you are with in the boat limit. Are the divers in trouble when they surface?

Listen, I think checking up on other people and keeping them in line on the internets is a valuable service that CF.com members provide. How else are we going to remember creel limits and good sportsmanship without people constantly assuming the worst about us and gracing us with their superior regulatory knowledge?

Not trying to fuel the fire “BUT” - about 6 months ago there was a Marine Law Enforcement show concerning the Lobster season in Florida - (if I remember it correctly) the boat was anchored offshore and boarded by law enforcement. There was a 6 man limit of Lobster, 6 people on the boat with permits, but when questioned they indicated that only “2” of them were diving. The 2 divers were fined and all but 2 limits confiscated!!! Before anybody jumps my A$$ I realize we are discussing Grouper not Lobster, SC not Florida but the vessel was in Federal waters. Just my .02

good catch Gregg, were you on the #s we dove last week? we went back and killed 9 nice groupers there! can’t say what kind or how many were aboard or the miami mafia would pounce.we killed an avg.of nine on the last 4/5 trips ranging from 15/25lbs,all legal and kosher when we got to the dock! lots of nice meat, should have enough to last till may 1. down gringo 1, down boy,time is on our side! this ain’t over there! they gots rights here!

There are 2 kinds of people out there... People who catch other people's limit, and people who are dumb enough to admit to it...
The chatter and comments do seem kind of harsh, but I don’t think you can really blame the guy. Suppose you had a pants wearing wife that dragged you to a place where you didn’t speak the primary language and all you could do is look at pictures of people slaying fish on your good GPS numbers back in SC. I’m sure you’d have a lot of hate and discontent built up too…
