What a beautiful day on the ocean for late November. We were met with an almost flat sea, and ran to G-town hole in search of tuna. I think it was to calm for the troll, as we only managed one skipjack. Kyle had spotted some nice bottom in 295’, so we decided to to drop on them. We were met with multiple Scamps on the first drift. We started another drift, and a large (10’) Dusky shark shows up under the boat. This big fish had swam through a metal ring at some time in his life, and it was growing into him. I felt bad for him, and we even talked about trying to catch him and remove it. All the nice talk went away when Kyle was bringing another nice grouper up, and the dusky ate it, and chewed his rig up. I was laughing at him, and I start bringing up another grouper…ditto! I hope he choked on them! We moved into Southwest Bank, and we drifted a few spots on the ledge. One of the guys (Bill) had a very rare catch on R&R, a Spotfin Hogfish. I caught a huge lionfish on a jig. We had to leave because of all the nuisance B-liners…EVERY DROP!!! I thought Kyle was going to blow a gasket. We finished with a stop near the garden, and caught a box of triggers and BSB’s. Nice ride in at over 40 mph!
thanks Steve

I’d rather be a conservative nut-job than a liberal with no nuts and no job!!
I actually took the photo, and there were no tricks what so ever to make the fish appear to be larger than he was. It was the largest Lion Fish anyone on our boat had ever seen. I’ve never seen a fish handled so carefully on a boat, ever. That fish got everyone’s attention immediately.

the scientists said that they are very tasty…no thanks. They said to cut off the fins with scissors, or burn the fins with a torch (heat destroys the toxins). I’ll stick with grouper or triggerfish

There aren’t gonna be many triggers or grouper left if these Lionfish keep out competing grouper food and sea bass for meals… Kill em if you see them. I offer a 5% discount per Lionfish, up to 30% on most the stuff at my dive shop. They are ruining reefs out there, not to mention making you think twice before you reach in a hole for a lobster! www.lowcountryscuba.com
