Spring break: I need my fix!

Alright, spring break finally releases me from my work/school cycle for a spot of fishing! I’m taking a buddy on Monday and I need to feel a rod bend like an addict needs his fix. I have not been able to get out and find anything happening, so I come to you all. Help me out!

I’ve seen a few good sheephead get pulled out at Mt. P. Is that bite still going? And still fishing clams, I assume, since the fiddlers don’t come back in for a few weeks, right?

I’ve seen a few bites in the surf too: I’ve got a few places on IOP I’ve been scoping out, and a few places on Folly.

Anyone who’s been out recently care to help me break out of my funk and land some fish? I haven’t been yet this year, and I need something to tide me over through most of April.

Thank you, folks!

Regarding the surf the water is still a bit cold ,yet we are seeing some signs of life. A big red was caught the other day by someone, and another gentleman caught a few fish out at Folly. The fishing is tough, but it is possible to catch some. I was out at IOP doing some scouting on Tuesday and at 35th street their was a decent sand bar or two with a long trough. If I was going to fish it I would pepper on either side of the sand bar with cut mullet or shrimp. Go out at low tide, wait for the tide to come in and drop bait on both sides of the sand bar. This is what it looked like, your call. Welcome to CF.

HEY!!! I KNOW THAT SPOT!!!:stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the spot, runbaby. I actually am returning to the forum, but I haven’t been on in a while.

I saw another spot around 8th on IOP that looked promising, but I guess my question is whether surf or pier has been producing better. I’m really jonesin’ for a bent rod. You know the feeling.

haha that spot is horrible

seriously though, right now its like he said, probably going to be slow, but you never know and a day out fishing on the beach with no catch is better than sitting in class/work

Thanks y’all! My friend wants to hit the beach, so I’ll check in on Monday with a report. Have a good weekend!

Tight lines.

If you really want a bent rod, save some money and join an offshore charter. Two hundred fish days are common bottom fishing. Want some T hinge big? Aj’s 15-60 lbs are easy to get on a hook. Want really good eating? Dolphin are right around the corner. All it takes is a little money.

Olde Man Charters

Well, no luck in the surf today. Fished Folly for an hour before calling it quits because my 3oz weight couldn’t hold the bottom. Gonna head out to Mt. P tomorrow and see if the pier holds any luck for me. Just gotta get some clams.

didn’t realize the current/wind was that strong out yesterday. I usually go with 4 oz minimum. I have 5 just incase. if I need more than that I go home haha. Did you have a pyramid weight?

Like Papa said, 4oz min pyramids for me as well. I keep some 6oz on hand also. With the new moon coming up, the surf drops out pretty quick. Low tides will be in the -1’ plus range next couple days. Low troughs will rip out fast.

…a little tip,

Current will be pulling to the right, cast your lines out to the left a bit, maybe 30-45 degrees and leave a slight “bow” in your line. When the current pulls on your line it will line up your pyramid and help it plow in.

Not sure what rods you have, but be careful, don’t let 6-8oz of lead break one…I have done it!

good advice from the man Dparker. I actually had to change out a rod last year because of that haha. frustrating…
